This Clinical Instructor position is located in the Joseph F. Sullivan Center (JFSC) of the Department of Public Health Sciences. The incumbent will deliver care in both fixed clinic facilities and mobile health clinics operating state-wide. The position will support a Clemson University – Medical University of South Carolina collaborative partnership identified as Healthy Me – Healthy SC. The partnership operates state-wide in communities in the Upstate, Midlands, Pee-Dee, and the Low Country.

The ultimate goals of the partnership are to improve health outcomes and health equity in each of the counties where Healthy Me – Healthy SC operates. The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) Clinical Instructor will conduct patient care prior to and over the course of participation in interdisciplinary programs related to disease prevention, wellness and chronic disease self-management for diverse populations. The incumbent will deliver health care and education programming, both in group and individual settings to activate patients within the context of disease prevention (e.g. pre-diabetes, lifestyle modification), early detection of disease (e.g. cancer and heart disease screening), and management of chronic disease (e.g. Type-2 diabetes, hypertension control).

The incumbent will work in a team-based environment with a registered nurse, health extension agent and others in delivery of patient care, health education and in supporting “gap care” which could take many forms including basic primary care. The incumbent will serve as a preceptor and professional role model for students, offering high quality clinical instruction within his/her scope of practice. This includes participating in Creative Inquiry, formal clinical or applied research, clinical problems or other student projects as appropriate. As opportunities arise, the incumbent will support research protocols delivered through JFSC clinics, both fixed clinics and mobile clinics). The incumbent will participate in quality improvement projects and other efforts aimed at enhancing the patient experience, patient safety and quality and improving clinic efficiencies. The incumbent will complete all required training (e.g. electronic health record, HIPAA). The incumbent will use the electronic health record within the work flow of the position. Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Masters of Science in Nursing. Licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing with at least 1-year experience. Certification in Basic Life Support. Valid SC Driver’s License. Experience in Clinical Preceptorship and Bilingual preferred. Frequent travel throughout South Carolina required.
