About Cantor

Cantor Arts Center boasts a proud and venerable history. Conceived with the founding of Stanford University in 1891, the museum opened in 1894, serving the University and the broader community. The 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake damaged the museum, necessitating its closure to the public. In 1995 groundbreaking for a major new wing and restoration of the historic building began in earnest with the revitalized museum opening in 1999 as the Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Center for the Visual Arts. The Cantor offers approximately 50,000 square feet of exhibition space, as well as classrooms and other study spaces for students and faculty. The Cantor's collection spans 5,000 years and includes more than 38,000 works of art from around the globe. Collections include art from Europe and America, both historical and contemporary; Asia, primarily Japan and China; Africa; Oceania; historical works from Mexico, Central America, and South America; the Stanford Family Collection; and public sculpture on the Stanford campus.
About the Anderson Collection

Stanford University is the home to the core of the Anderson Collection, one of the world's most outstanding private assemblies of modern and contemporary American art.

The collection is a gift from Harry W. and Mary Margaret Anderson and Mary Patricia Anderson Pence, the Bay Area family who built the collection over the last 50 years. The Anderson Collection at Stanford University is adjacent to Cantor Arts Center and the McMurtry Building for the Department of Art and Art History, and across Palm Drive from Bing Concert Hall and Frost Amphitheater. The addition of this remarkable art collection strengthens Stanford's growing commitment to the arts and the connection between the study, creation and experience of art.
Job Purpose
Reporting to the Marketing and Communications Director, the Digital Marketing Manager will develop and implement a comprehensive and integrated digital marketing plan and editorial calendar to drive online engagement, increase museum attendance, deepen visitor experience and expand brand awareness for the Cantor Arts Center and the Anderson Collection at Stanford.

We're looking for a person with both strategic and tactical skills, an appreciation for the visual arts and a desire to develop audiences for the present and future. The position works with the Marketing and Communications team to synchronize timing, content and messaging and collaborates with internal departments to integrate social and digital media into marketing campaigns.
Core Duties:

  • Develop, optimize, and implement digital marketing initiatives for website, email, advertising, social media and influencer outreach campaigns. Responsibilities include:
    • Manage website content strategy, design, development, ongoing updates, SEO, analytics and user experience ensuring the highest standards of functionality. Devise strategies to optimize performance, increase online traffic and improve usability.
    • Oversee email marketing program's design and production, content, segmentation, deployment, tracking and optimization.
    • Manage digital advertising campaigns, including retargeting and paid search.
    • Develop and manage social media channels. Create strategies to achieve and sustain growth targets for social platforms.
    • Initiate and grow an influencer relations program.
  • Architect and commission strategic, responsive and user-generated content based on organizational priorities, museum exhibitions and activities. Leverage content for traditional and digital marketing efforts across relevant channels.
  • Measure, analyze and report on digital marketing campaign performance.
  • Develop strategies to capture audience data to build segmented mailing list from current and potential visitors.
  • Monitor and evaluate emerging technologies. Provide thought leadership and perspective for adoption where appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • Minimum five years of digital marketing and social media work in a collaborative environment; combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
  • Demonstrable experience in designing and implementing successful digital marketing campaigns.
  • Strong understanding of current digital marketing and social media channels.
  • Familiarity with web design.
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with digital influencer ecosystem.
  • Experience with video production and editing, including knowledge of programs and tools.
  • Familiarity with analytic suites of various major social media and video platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, etc.).
  • Experience with digital media tagging, basic knowledge of HTML, SWF, GIF, and e-mail design.
  • Applied knowledge of best practices in Paid Search and Display advertising.
  • Experience with Google Analytics, Excel, and A/B testing tools.
  • Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills.
    Physical Requirements:
    • Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks;
    • Frequently stand/walk, sit, use a telephone, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, speaking.
    • Occasionally grasp forcefully, writing by hand.
    • Rarely sort/file paperwork.
    Working Conditions
    • Occasional work on evenings and weekends.
