Reporting to the Assistant Director of Technical Services team in Stanford University IT (UIT), this position requires you to provide Applications and Database Administration in support of Stanford's Middleware and Integration Services (MaIS) systems.

Job purpose:
You will install, configure, upgrade, administer, secure, monitor and maintain Middleware/Web Applications and relevant databases under minimal supervision.

Core duties*:

  • You install, configure, support enterprise applications and relational database management systems (RDBMS), related software to resolve highly complex and/or unique issues without precedent and/or structure. Work on databases using more advanced database administration concepts.
  • You design, develop, and maintain highly-available databases.
  • Take responsibility for database design and performance optimization, backup and recovery strategies and implementation, as well as monitoring the overall health of the database environment.
  • You will execute complete database solutions from evaluation to implementation.
  • You will provide on-going system administration and technical infrastructure support.
  • Review the physical and logical design of databases for optimal database structures, performance tuning, security, and database backup/recovery. Plan and implement pro-active and reactive performance analysis, monitoring, troubleshooting, and capacity planning.
  • Evaluate and test marketplace tools and utilities, including system integration and automation, which improve server functionality and promote the development of RDBMS applications.
  • You will develop and maintain efficient and appropriate connectivity solutions between various campus databases to ensure necessary data is available as needed.
  • Craft data flow and data lifecycle documentation.
  • You will develop and enforce database standards and/or new development protocols.

Minimum requirements:
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree and eight years of relevant experience or a combination of education and relevant experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Demonstrated experience in Middleware applications management in Apache/Tomcat environments, Weblogic/Fusion/SOA and in a UNIX OS platform.
  • Demonstrated experience in the support requirements of large database applications/systems including performance analysis and tuning of high volume, transaction systems on an Oracle/UNIX environment.
  • Strong Dev/Ops knowledge - Python, Bash, Perl, Git, Mongo DB SSL/Certificate management
  • Strong Cloud platform experience - AWS, Terraform, Jenkins, CI/CD process
  • Deep understanding and experience with design and implementation of complex database architecture.
  • Extensive experience in programming environments.
  • Ability to develop a vision for future computing needs and to develop appropriate plans to meet these needs.
  • Ability to work well independently or as a team member.
  • Ability to maintain knowledge of new and current technology and trends.
  • Ability to collaborate with vendors and system service providers, provide administration for system solutions, and act as a liaison.
  • Extensive experience with database security protocol.

Desired Skills:
  • Install, Configure, and Administer Tomcat and apache webservers, MongoDB, Java, Jenkins, Git, GitHub and its configurations
  • Strong Oracle DBA skills. Has extensive experience in cloning databases through RMAN or manual approach.
  • Skilled in installation/setup and management of Fusion Middleware in a clustered environment.
  • Quick learner with can-do attitude
  • Application Management skills and extensive experience in JMS/Weblogic, SSL Certificate management, Apache/Tomcat , Oracle Service Bus, Perl are highly preferred.
  • UNIX Shell . WLST/Shell scripting , SQL scripting are highly preferred.
  • Highly technical in troubleshooting Weblogic, Apache, Tomcat, Server and Oracle logs
  • Proven experience in SSL certificate management - PKI, CSR, keytool, key creation via openssl and weblogic keystore management
  • Application Administrator Certification in Middleware a plus
