Position Summary:

The Shop Manager of the Design and Prototyping Facilities within the Engineering Centers Building (ECB) will act as the overall lead for the machine shop (TEAM-Lab), Phil Meyers Automotive Center (PMAC) and other spaces used by the College of Engineering (CoE) Student Organizations (e.g. robotics team, hyperloop, rocket team). This person will manage a team of 8 technical staff members that support the instructional mission and equipment maintenance.

This position will be part of the Grainger Engineering Design Innovation Lab, which also includes a separately managed 27k ft2 Makerspace and Design Studio space on the first two floors of Wendt Commons.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

Bachelor's degree required in any engineering field, Master's degree strongly preferred in any engineering field.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

-- 10 years of experience in engineering design and/or design-related instruction and 2 years of experience managing a team of technical staff.
- Experience with both CNC and manual fabrication equipment (e.g. mills, lathes, welding) and a wide variety of materials, e.g., wood, plastic, metals, etc.
- Good communication skills with the ability to work effectively with students, staff and faculty by explaining new and unfamiliar procedures and helping them find solutions to fabrication problems.
- An understanding of current safety procedures including the proper handling of tools, machinery and materials.
- Ability to create and manage innovative hands-on engineering curriculum.
