The Department of Textile and Apparel, Technology and Management is searching for a faculty member in Textile Design (TD). The successful candidate should have expertise in fibers, yarns and textile materials including design, development, structure, and technology in academic and/or industrial environments. Responsibilities include teaching, independent scholarly research, and promoting student learning in the design of textiles and textile products.

Textile and Apparel, Technology and Management
NC State’s Wilson College of Textiles, and the Department of Textile and Apparel Technology and Management, prepares future leaders for the textile, apparel, home, furniture, fashion and retail industries.

Based in Raleigh, North Carolina, our undergraduate and graduate programs incorporate global marketplace dynamics with a strategic management focus. Our graduates incorporate art/design and science/technology with management concepts in creative problem-solving. Our program is equipped with access and experiences utilizing the latest industry technologies. The majority of the students have an enriching and intensive study abroad experience. Essential Job Duties

The Department of Textile and Apparel, Technology and Management is searching for a faculty member in Textile Design (TD).

The successful candidate should have expertise in fibers, yarns and textile materials including design, development, structure, and technology in academic and/or industrial environments.

Responsibilities include teaching, independent scholarly research, and promoting student learning in the design of textiles and textile products.

The successful candidate should have expertise in fibers, yarns and textile materials including design, development, structure, and technology in academic and/or industrial environments.

The successful candidate must be able to communicate and work effectively with faculty, students, laboratory and studio equipment, and staff. Proficiency in computer-aided design tools, creative and entrepreneurial thinking, and the use of design technologies and textile materials to create prototypical products for the global market are desirable.

The candidate is expected to have a strong interest in applying their expertise to the current and emerging areas of research related to fibers/fiber-based products, as well as synergistic interdisciplinary collaborations across multiple disciplines and institutions in close partnership with industry and government.

Faculty members in TATM have the responsibility for teaching, research, extension and engagement, and service. Dissemination of research to academic and industry audiences is expected. This dissemination should be balanced and can take the form of published works and/or juried exhibitions. Faculty members are responsible for seeking extramural funds for teaching development and research. All faculty members are expected to be involved in the operation of the department, college, and university by serving in various capacities (for example, on committees, boards, panels, task forces, and commissions). The faculty member’s Statement of Faculty Responsibilities describes the level of engagement in the areas of responsibility. (

Teaching: We seek educators who demonstrate strong potential for teaching excellence. The successful candidate will be expected to excel in the mentorship of students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. We prefer an individual who is dynamic in the classroom and is student-centric. Active participation in academic advising of students as well as in the assessment/accreditation process is also expected. The successful candidate is required to teach courses in the TD program, while the typical teaching load may be two courses per semester with significant variance based on credit hours to account for studio hours and pro. Scholarship: The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate competence in research and scholarly methods that advance knowledge in the field and the potential for successful grant writing. Demonstrated capability of collaborating with industry partners on projects and research is a plus, as are competencies in design fundamentals, and visual presentation.

Service: We seek an individual who will be proactive and enthusiastic about actively recruiting and retaining TATM undergraduate and graduate students, with a commitment to improving access to higher education for students from underrepresented groups. In addition, TATM expects active service on departmental, college, and university committees and involvement in professional societies and organizations.

PhD, MFA or terminal degree in the discipline from a recognized university or equivalent terminal academic qualifications.
