DESCRIPTION

Under direct guidance of senior researcher, the Field Researcher 2 will apply acquired skills and knowledge of hydrology and meteorology to support field research projects of small to medium size and of intermediate scope and complexity. Works with supervisors to deploy and maintain hydrometeorological field equipment. Takes measurements in the field as necessary.

The incumbent will support research projects that rely on field observations of the atmosphere, riverine system, and land surface and subsurface, as well as keeping current with the latest technologies and research advances. Under supervision, develop methods to quality control the data and automate processes. Provides event and meeting support as it relates to field research and results.

  • Position will be based in San Diego. Must be willing and able to travel.
  • Occasional evenings and weekends may be required; overtime and weekends may be required.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Proven working knowledge of safety, legal, cultural and regulatory requirements relative to field research responsibility.

  • Working knowledge of research discipline, principles, concepts, analysis and/or operations being conducted at field and remote sites.

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze observational data sets in from a wide range of instrumentation.

  • Demonstrated working knowledge of local customs and operations at field and remote sites.

  • Proven ability to develop and maintain strategic relationships and partnerships with remote research partners.

  • Proficient research and analytical skills. Proven attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to work in ambiguous conditions.

  • Strong communication skills with project team members. Ability to work with a team, and to meet deadlines with minimal supervision.

  • Excellent verbal communication skills presenting information to audiences of various backgrounds. Proven written communication skills to present information in reports and manuscripts.
