Occupational Summary

The Nicholas School of the Environment (NSOE) is seeking a full-time Program Coordinator for a limited term position through June 30, 2021. This position will play an instrumental role in managing and implementing the Nicholas School master’s project program (group and solo projects) for all professional master’s students, identifying and coordinating client projects and faculty-driven group projects, engaging with faculty program chairs, developing, implementing, and summarizing student evaluations, as well as supporting special projects, as appropriate.
Position reports to Student Services department.  Position works closely with the associate dean for professional programs (ADPP) and the director of the Duke Environmental Leadership (DEL) program.
Responsibilities: 
  • Masters Project (MP) and Curriculum-Based Client Projects
  • Lead, manage, and implement MP process for on-campus and online Master of Environmental Management and Master of Forestry students, including working with faculty and staff to implement successful MP process and symposiums.
  • Actively engage with employers/clients/alumni to create projects that serve as valuable, practical experiences for professional master’s students.
  • Actively engage with faculty to coordinate faculty-driven group projects.
  • Schedule and participate in meetings with key stakeholders.
  • Develop and implement communication pathways and materials for continuing and prospective clients in partnership with CPDC and ODAR.
  • Support the refinement of the MP process to a one-year format, under the direction and guidance of the ADPP.
  • Manage and maintain a calendar of key deadlines. Communicate with students and track progress toward completion of projects (including tracking various submissions, including draft proposals, and communicating with students and advisors regarding status). Ensure related website content is current and accurate. Ensure deliverables are submitted as appropriate.
  • Manage iThenticate process.
  • Work with students and faculty to schedule presentations for the December and April MP Symposiums. Lead implementation of events, including bringing together key staff to support symposium implementation, manage the symposium event app, coordinate catering and logistical needs. Coordinate staff, faculty, and student volunteers as needed to implement successful events. Manage submission process for symposia and for project completion. Work closely with the DEL-MEM program coordinator for scheduling and of DEL-MEM students, and logistical needs specific for online students. Collect and share presentation feedback (via Qualtrics) for each presenter. Confirm final submissions within DukeSpace.
  • Serve as key resource for students, faculty, staff and clients for master’s project related questions and events.
  • Coordinate with ADPP and DEL director on process, key decisions, and MP issues, as needed. Collaborate with Student Services to ensure requirements are met and messaging is consistent.
  • Work with faculty chairs to schedule MP practice presentations for the MP proposal and final MP presentations; assist faculty in developing a plan/schedule.
  • Work with ADPP and program chairs to set common standards and expectations for the MP.
  • Develop standard training materials for MP advisors and MEM students.
  • Develop and implement a process for evaluating MP outcomes, from both the student and faculty perspective.
  • Design, implement, and evaluate a MP client survey.
  • Collaborate with program chairs and Office of Communications and Marketing to identify and share MP results with the public. Work closely with the communications team to ensure the value of the MP is appropriately communicated to prospective students and clients on the website, highlighting the important role of the MP as part of the MEM/MF curriculum.
 
  • Project Support
  • Update student program worksheets to ensure standardized format and dynamic formatting, to also include completion of certificate fields.
  • Update and maintain list of key online MEM competitors, in collaboration with DEL-MEM program coordinator. Including identification of competitor hallmarks.
  • Manage structure and logistics of graduate certificates to ensure consistency and efficiency, and to support faculty directors. Design and implement web-based system to manage certificate program information. Engage with faculty to understand program needs and effectiveness of certificate administration; recommend process and support improvements, as appropriate, and collaborate with faculty regarding implementation.
  • Support adhoc projects related to the on campus and online professional master’s programs, as needed, and under the direction of the ADPP and DEL faculty director.
 
  • Faculty and Staff Engagement
  • Engage with and support faculty program chairs. Develop monthly faculty program chairs meeting agenda and supporting documents. Support other faculty and staff, as appropriate.
  • Manage student assistants for program chairs.
  • Coordinate and participate in key meetings between program chairs and the ADPP.
  • Support scheduling and development of program seminars, in collaboration with faculty chairs (and CPDC, when appropriate).
  • Participate in monthly Student Services staff meeting. Meet routinely with Student Services staff as related to the MP, student degree requirements, and any student issues related to the MP.
  • Participate in schoolwide and Nicholas School community events, as appropriate.

Preferred Experience, Skills and Knowledge
 
Prefer candidates with knowledge of NSOE Master’s Program and/or experience in higher education with faculty engagement and project management.

The Dukes, a Durham family that built a worldwide financial empire in the manufacture of tobacco products and developed electricity production in the Carolinas, long had been interested in Trinity College.
