Job Description:


The position exists as part of the Residence Life department. While the position will report to the Director of Residence Life, counseling hours will be supervised by the Director of the Counseling Center including provisional hours required for licensure.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:


  • Providing hours to residents for mental health consultation and brief counseling;
  • Facilitating group therapy in residence halls;
  • Develop and implement preventive, educational, and outreach programming;
  • Providing follow-up services to residents and staff following crisis situations;
  • Consulting with Residence Life staff on mental-health situations;
  • Evening and weekend work is expected related to department processes and emergency/crisis response;
  • Be aware of, understand, and follow all university policies.


Requirements:


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


  • Completion of a Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling, Social Work or related field from an accredited institution;
  • License or provisional license to provide counseling in New York State;
  • Must possess communication and interpersonal skills sufficient to work effectively with an increasingly diverse array of students and colleagues;
  • Must demonstrate a commitment to creating, fostering and sustaining an inclusive environment in and out of the classroom.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS


  • Experience working with college-aged students, especially in a residential setting;
  • Excellent administrative, communication, leadership, decision-making skills;
  • The ability to work autonomously in a team atmosphere.
  • Candidates who have engaged in professional development activities to enhance knowledge of diversity, equity and inclusion and have worked collaboratively across various departments in fostering the success of underrepresented groups and a supportive and inclusive environment for all.

Opening for a full-time, tenure track, 10 month, SL-3 Counselor (State Title), UUP-represented live-in Counselor in Residence (Local Title) position available July 29, 2019
