Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2-year degree, or professional certificate. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualificaitons.

Preferred Qualifications

Applicants should have a BS degree in biology or plant science or a related discipline with knowledge and skills in a research lab and in the greenhouse and ability to work in a team environment.

Position Summary

The individual at this position will function as an integral member of a team to conduct phenotyping for nematode resistance in greenhouse to support the gene/QTL discovery in soybean breeding program. The positon is supported by the United Soybean Board. The primary responsibilities of this position will be to evaluate soybean breeding materials or mapping populations for nematode resistance in the greenhouse including planting and growing soybean, preparation and application of nematode inoculum to soybean entries, derooting, data collection and entry, and data analysis and interpretation. The individual at the position will also be involved in the tissue sampling, DNA extraction, marker genotyping and data collection and entry in our molecular breeding lab and ensure to achieve project goals in time. This is a 2 year position.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

The ideal applicant will have the ability to work in greenhouse and molecular lab and to define work priorities. Demonstrated ability to pay attentions to details, and take initiatives. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both written and oral and to work effectively in a team setting.

Physical Demands

Withstand sustained periods of physical activity such as standing, bending, reaching above shoulder level and lift 50 pounds. Will work in greenhouse for a long period during the summer time.
