Position Summary

The College of Arts and Science is seeking a dynamic Associate Director of Academic Support. This individual will direct and implement strategies for identifying and supporting students experiencing academic difficulty. Engage with various systems and platforms to gather and analyze data related to student academic performance and student success for the College of Arts and Science, and make recommendations for the enhancement of academic support. Serve as an academic advisor to a cohort of approximately 60-80 first year students and a comparable number of sophomore students who have not declared their majors. Develop training materials and manuals including policies and procedures for working with high alert student or students on academic probation. Facilitate sessions for groups of students in a classroom setting.

Qualifications

Required Education:Master's Degree in Liberal Arts discipline or Higher Education Administration andPreferred Education:Doctoral Degree in related discipline.Required Experience:5+ years of increasingly responsible professional level experience in academic advisement, teaching or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Preferred Experience:Related experience at a top college or university. Experience in developing/managing programs and services for students experiencing academic difficulty.Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:Superior communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels. Ability to develop and maintain constructive and cooperative working relationships with others to further the organization's goal. Ability to advise diverse student population on a multitude of topics. Knowledge of student information and success retention systems, and experience with data analysis. Knowledge of recent research on student success related to retention and graduation and of other higher education issues. Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:Knowledge of higher education issues.

 

Additional Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Must be well versed in quality data collection to ensure adequacy, accuracy and legitimacy of data in NYU systems and be able to strictly follow data privacy and security procedures for data handling and analysis to ensure adherence to legal and institutional standards.
