Doctorate degree in assigned area of specialty; and 2 years research experience

Purpose of Job

Teach lower and upper level biology courses; guide Pre-Professional students; initiate, develop and setup research to support student research activities; obtain extramural funding to support research and academic enhancement activities; be a proactive supporter of all activities and programs sponsored through the department; conduct state-of-the art research; publish and present research with students as co-authors at local, state, regional and national conferences.

Scope of Responsibilities

Teach in selected areas of biology for which the candidate is adequately qualified; develop creative and innovative instructional programs to deliver basic and advanced concepts in biology to undergraduate and graduate students. Provide leadership in developing vigorous programs to educate and motivate undergraduates and graduates with aspirations toward entering professional programs such as medicine, dentistry, etc. Seek and obtain externally funded research grants, and actively participate in all departmental activities including providing a leadership role in recruitment and retention. Be active in research, aiding the students in presenting and publishing research data as co-authors.

Essential Job Functions

Teach undergraduate/graduate courses; initiate research to provide research experiences which will enable students to be competitive in acquiring positions in professional or graduate programs at research intensive universities or professional schools;
Curricular advisement and mentoring students
Initiate advanced strategies including tutorials for students to succeed, mentor and advise undergraduate and graduate students in their respective curricular programs in biology.

Qualifications

Ph.D. in the biological sciences, experience in teaching undergraduate/graduate courses, experience in research as evidenced by presentations and publications, experience with students in academic setting and the candidate must be capable of attracting external funding for undergraduate and graduate students and provide research training for the students.
