Basic Function

To provide leadership, direction, supervision and managerial accountability within the campus financial aid office for the purpose of maximizing assistance for all Northern Virginia Community College students who have applied for financial aid, or who wish to do so.

Duties and Responsibilities

To provide leadership, direction, supervision and managerial accountability within the campus financial aid office for the purpose of maximizing assistance for all Northern Virginia Community College students who have applied for financial aid, or who wish to do so. To act as the campus financial aid extension of and liaison to the College Financial Aid Office (CFAO), to initiate and adhere to direction, policies and procedures provided by the CFAO, to create an environment of cooperation that reinforces the vital relationship between the campus financial aid office and the campus, to serve as the primary contact for the Dean of Students in researching, resolving and providing follow-up on financial aid issues and concerns, to participate in Student Services meetings and activities on campus as a member of Student Services, and to provide leadership in interactions with other campus offices. To ensure effectiveness and efficiency of the campus office by establishing and maintaining staff schedules and roles, by developing and maintaining innovative processes that meet the needs of students in a timely manner, and by monitoring compliance and staff adherence to all pertinent federal, state, VCCS, and institutional policies and procedures. To ensure availability and accuracy of information and assistance to those accessing the services of the campus financial aid office for the purpose of guiding students through the aid process—over the phone, by email, or by in-person consultations.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in business administration, human services, counseling, social science or related course of study or an equivalent combination of training and experience in the area of student financial aid.
Previous Supervisory Experience

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s in human services, counseling social science preferred.
PeopleSoft knowledge and expertise;
Demonstrate proficient use of and knowledge of financial aid, industry, and college websites and publications including, but not limited to, NASFAA Today’s News, IFAP, NOVA website, SCHEV, VCCS

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Strong management, training and leadership skills and the ability to synergize staff for maximum output and results. Solid customer service skills and abilities. Knowledge of and ability to interpret federal, state and institutional policies and procedures, especially as they relate to the administration of financial aid. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Ability to work well with students, staff and other offices for successful resolution to difficult problems. Familiarity with computer applications related to financial aid as well as student information systems. Ability to work independently and to create efficient office management processes and systems. Ability to compose correspondence with proficiency of syntax and grammar. Ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines. Experience processing financial aid within PeopleSoft SIS
