Northern Arizona University’s Counseling Services (NAU CS) is seeking to fill five generalist Counselor, Psychologist, or Social Worker positions with demonstrated commitment to social justice and established clinical, outreach, and training experience with a diverse college population. The successful candidates for these positions will be primarily responsible for the provision of clinical services and support to NAU students. Additionally, these positions may also require dedicated hours at satellite/embedded locations around the Flagstaff mountain campus. As such, NAU CS is enthusiastic about recruiting professionals who thrive in fast-paced environments and are seeking positions that will foster opportunities to build strong relationships with colleagues as well as the NAU community.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Brief intake assessments.
  • Individual, group, and couples counseling.
  • Triage intervention (daytime crisis intervention and evening/weekend emergency on-call rotation).
  • Facilitation of didactic training seminars for CS trainees and staff.
  • Provision of clinical supervision.
  • Outreach programming (including opportunities to travel to statewide NAU locations).
  • Consultation with faculty, staff, students, and parents about students of concern.
  • Collaboration and consultation with psychiatric, medical, and other mental health providers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Psychologist

  • Doctoral degree in counseling or clinical psychology AND
  • Currently licensed, or license eligible as an LP in Arizona AND
  • Three years of counseling/clinical/training experience which can include training in a clinical environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the development of ongoing multicultural competency in professional and clinical contexts.
  • Demonstrated competency providing clinical services, outreach and training for diverse populations.
  • Demonstrated experience providing clinical services for the wide range of presenting issues seen in college students, including assessing and managing risk and the treatment of serious concerns (e.g., SI/HI/SIB, personality disorders).

Counselor

  • Master's degree in counseling, psychology, or social work AND
  • Currently licensed, or license eligible as an LPC, LMFT, LCSW in Arizona AND
  • Three years of counseling/clinical/training experience which can include training in a clinical environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the development of ongoing multicultural competency in professional and clinical contexts.
  • Demonstrated competency providing clinical services, outreach and training for diverse populations.
  • Demonstrated experience providing clinical services for the wide range of presenting issues seen in college students, including assessing and managing risk and the treatment of serious concerns (e.g., SI/HI/SIB, personality disorders).

This position has been identified as a safety/security sensitive position. Therefore, per AZ Revised Statute, Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, employment history investigation, degree verification (in some cases) and fingerprinting.

Additionally, as an employer in the state of Arizona, NAU is required to participate in the federal E-Verify program that assists employers with verifying new employees' right to work in the United States.

Finally, each year the Northern Arizona University Police Department releases an annual security report. The report is a result of the federal law known as the Clery Act and contains policy statements that address the school’s policies, procedures and programs concerning safety and security including policies for responding to emergency situations and sexual offenses. The report contains three years of data for Clery reportable crime statistics for the campus along with the most current year’s Fire Safety Report, which includes policy statements and fire statistics for Flagstaff on-campus student housing.

This is a Service Professional (SPF) position. If a new employee chooses the ASRS retirement option, participation in the Arizona State Retirement System, and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it, will begin on the first of the pay period following 6 months after the new employee's start date. CS provides a growing training program for students in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Counseling and Clinical Psychology programs.
