DESCRIPTION

The Thornton Special Procedures nurse provides pre-procedure, intra-procedure, and post-procedure nursing care to inpatients and outpatients undergoing endoscopy and other special procedures at multiple locations. Assists physician during endoscopy procedures and performs moderate sedation under the direction of the physician. Identifies and implements nursing interventions, and evaluates results for a wide variety of patient populations. Directs and acts as resource to other members of the nursing and tech team and performs other duties as assigned. Promotes compliance and support for policies and participates in patient safety and quality improvement initiatives.

Autonomous nursing care is the ability of a nurse to assess and provide nursing actions as appropriate for patient care populations based on competence, professional expertise, and knowledge. The nurse is expected to practice autonomously consistent with ANA Standards of Practice and Professional Performance. Independent judgment is expected to be exercised within the context of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to patient care.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must be a graduate from an accredited school of Nursing.

  • RN License issued by the State of California.

  • BLS/CPR and ACLS certification at time of hire with commitment to get ART within six (6) months of hire date.

  • Minimum one (1) year of recent adult GI or inpatient acute, critical care, emergency nursing, or procedural nursing or related experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • BSN
  • Recent GI, procedural, or critical care background including moderate sedation experience.
  • Specialty certification.
  • CGRN Certification
  • PALS Certification
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work various hours, days, shifts, on-call and various locations based on the 24-hour Medical Center's business needs.
  • On-call required; possible overtime.
  • Must be able to work evening shift 11:00am - 7:30pm.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours and float between Hillcrest and Thornton (La Jolla).
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
  • Selected candidate may be hired at the CNIII level pending review and approval by the Nurse Executive Council.
