The HVAC Technician is responsible for emergency and scheduled repair, upgrade, and maintenance of Direct Digital Control automation equipment, heating and air conditioning units, air filter replacement, split systems, chillers, PTAC's, pneumatics, low pressure hot water boilers, hydronic systems, ventilation and exhaust fans, Variable Frequency Drives, 125 psig steam and condensate systems. The successful applicant will also troubleshoot and maintain the hardware and software for Honeywell and Siemens building automation systems.

Accountabilities:
  1. HVAC maintenance
    • Assist higher level personnel with maintenance, as directed
    • Troubleshoot, repair, replace, and upgrade HVAC automation systems and components, variable frequency drives, SCRs, VAVs, hydronics, humidity control systems and thermostats
    • Troubleshoot, maintain, replace, and repair electric controls up to 480 vac, pumps, steam systems and components, radiator controls, traps, fume hoods, HVAC air handlers, belts, bearings and filters
    • Refrigeration leak testing, recovery, and repairs to PTACS and split systems
    • Maintain computer hardware and software
  2. HVAC operations
    • Monitor, adjust settings, and change parameters of DDC automation systems: Honeywell, Siemens, Staefa, Trane
    • Monitor and adjust comfort settings for HVAC ventilation, Fume Hoods, steam, and hydronic systems to satisfy Lehigh faculty, staff and students
    • Research HVAC systems to troubleshoot using manuals, blueprints and the internet
    • Knowledge of Lehigh University LAN structure as it relates to HVAC
    • Utilize Vendor Specific and advanced Microsoft applications as needed
    • Edit DDC program code; verify correct operation
    • Provide technical guidance and support to Lehigh staff
    • Be familiar with site utilities layout and repairs, including high voltage substation
Qualifications:
  1. High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience
  2. Prefer applicant with HVAC training, work experience in commercial and/or industrial HVAC maintenance and repair and with controls experience
  3. Three to five years related work experience
  4. Solid communication and interpersonal skills
  5. Good analytical and decision making skills
  6. Valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License required and good driving record
  7. Successful completion of standard background checks including but not limited to: social security verification, education verification, national criminal background checks, motor vehicle checks, PATCH, FBI fingerprinting, Child Abuse Clearance and credit history based upon the requirements of the position
Special Considerations:
  • Will sometimes be required to lift up to 100 pounds, work in wet or humid non-weather conditions, near toxic or caustic chemicals or areas with risk of radiation
  • Will often be required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk or hear, lift up to 25 pounds, work near moving mechanical parts, work near fumes or airborne particles, in extreme non-weather heat, in areas of risk of electrical shock or vibration
  • This position is considered Essential Services Staff; Essential Services Staff are required to report to campus and remain during inclement weather and other emergency situations; they are defined as those needed to deliver student services and maintain campus facilities, campus safety and security
  • This position is responsible for driving university-owned vehicles as a routine function, therefore a valid Driver’s License and a good driving record is required
  • Required to be on call, one full week, every eight weeks.
  • Regular evening, holiday or weekend hours; at least one Sunday every 3 months and 6 day work weeks at peak times
  • Occasional travel to attend annual training; approximately one week
  • Periods of high volume/workload or overtime; at least 8 overtime hours required for one Sunday 8 times yearly
