Innovate Carolina, under the Vice Chancellor’s Office of Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Economic Development, serves as an over-arching connector of innovation and entrepreneurship. Position Description

Innovate Carolina’s Student Engagement and Events Program Manager will serve as the lead of Innovation & Entrepreneurship (I&E) student outreach and engagement, acting as primary liaison for students between I&E and partner units. The position will also oversee Innovate Carolina’s annual calendar of engagement events related to fostering the innovation ecosystem writ large across the campus. The Program Manager is responsible for managing and implementing student-facing I&E co-curricular programming and ensuring the delivery of successful, high-quality outreach and engagement events at UNC CH.
This function involves identifying and evaluating best practices for outreach and engagement strategies to promote knowledge of and participation in co-curricular innovation and entrepreneurial programming for students, and co-designing and executing events that support the broader I&E community.

Specific responsibilities include:
•Work with leadership to developing the outreach and engagement strategy associated with I&E student activities including 1789, Carolina Innovation Platform, Fall Welcome events, Global Entrepreneurship Week, Internship initiative, ACC Inventure Prize, Carolina Challenge support, etc.
•Engage and build strong rapport with programs and faculty across campus to aid in the awareness and support the growth of I&E at UNC CH.
•Managing the comprehensive outreach plan to student I&E clubs, students and other I&E programs on campus.
•Engaging and mentoring entrepreneurial student organizations, and connecting students to resources on campus and throughout the community.
•Continue the design and development of the co-curricular/working space which includes: mentor support, entrepreneurial programming and managing multiple student work teams.
•Evaluation of the efficacy of outreach and engagement efforts to make any necessary adjustments in an effort to best serve the I&E community.

In addition to the student-focused events mentioned above, co-designing, planning, and execution of events related to the UNC-CH I&E Network including (but not limited to) monthly Innovate Carolina Network Forums, faculty and student workshops, and the annual Innovation Showcase.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

•The ideal candidate will have demonstrated customer-facing knowledge and experience navigating university programs and be skilled in interacting with students, faculty, external partners, and university administration.
•The person in this position ideally will have the demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and prioritize their work, the work of others, and impact results without formal authority.

Essential to success will be the ability to present information clearly and concisely in oral and written form, as well as experience in interpreting and applying policies, laws, and regulations to the maintenance of department records.

    Carolina Computing Initiative: Beginning with the freshman class of 2000, undergraduates must purchase laptop computers. The University has arranged for IBM to offer computers at excellent prices.
