Maryville is searching for an energetic and forward-thinking Dean of Students to join its dynamic Student Life team. The successful candidate will have a passion for working closely with students in a fast-paced, innovative, student-centered work environment. The Dean supports the work of the Vice President for Student Life and will be a visionary and collaborative leader within the division; responsible for providing programs, services, and initiatives to foster a strong sense of campus community and increased student engagement. The successful candidate must be committed to fostering a culturally diverse atmosphere for students, staff, and faculty.
Essential Responsibilities:
•Provide supervision to departments within Student Life
•Serve as Deputy Title IX Coordinator which includes serving as an investigator
•Chair the Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT)
•Oversight of the Student Conduct process working collaboratively with residential life
•Policy review, development, and implementation
•Student outcomes assessment
•Developing quality relationships with students
•Serve as member on the Critical Incident Response Team
•Coordinate Commencement
•Address/resolve student issues and concerns
•Chair strategic planning process within the division of Student Life
•Budget management
•Serve, when needed, in place of the Vice President for Student Life
•Collaborate with departments across all levels of the university in addressing/resolving students’ needs/issues, delivering programs and services and building community
•Provide leadership to student life professional development committee
•Keep current with best practices and trends in student affairs and higher education
•Master’s degree with a minimum of 8-10 years of progressively responsible experience within Student Affairs
•Ability to work calmly under pressure and collaboratively within a team
•Ability to prioritize, plan, coordinate and direct multiple projects, people, and activities
•Ability to exercise diplomacy, good judgement, discretion and maintain confidentiality
•Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
•Demonstrated record of strong managerial and collegial leadership
•Experience in supervision of professional staff and budget management
•Demonstrated knowledge of higher education law (e.g. Title IX, Clery, Drug Free Schools Act, FERPA)
•Exceptional communication and customer service skills
•Ability to manage details, anticipate needs, and maintain high standards of conduct
•Demonstrated experience in dealing with crises
•Demonstrated ability to develop and build relationships
•Doctorate in higher education leadership or related field
•Familiarity with Advocate by Symplicity and student information systems

On the Maryville campus, academic, administrative and housing buildings span 130-acres of beautiful wooded and landscaped scenery. Maryville has constructed 10 new campus buildings since 1998. They include the Anheuser-Busch Academic Center, Art & Design Building, University Auditorium, Donius University Center, state-of-the-art health professions facility Myrtle E. and Earl E. Walker Hall and five student apartment buildings.
