Position Description:
The head coach for the men's and women's cross country/track & field program reports directly to the director of Athletics. The coach will direct and manage the daily operations of an NCAA Division III intercollegiate program competing in the Northwest Conference (NWC). The individual's responsibilities include, but not limited to, supervision of assistant coaching staff, recruitment and retention of student-athletes to meet university and department objectives, development and coaching of students-athletes for effective competitive results, and coordinating the administrative and public relations needs of the program. Other responsibilities to include serving as an instructor for Physical Education activities classes. Perform other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities:
  • Coordinates, directs and supervises all aspects of an intercollegiate cross country/track & field program, team selection, organizing and conducting practices, scheduling contests, meet management, budget preparation and control, equipment purchases and maintenance, travel arrangements, safety and risk management, and hiring and educating assistant coaches and event personnel.
  • Lead an effective recruitment and retention plan for enrollment of qualified student-athletes and monitoring and nurturing academic progress.
  • Teaches in the Physical Education activities program.
  • Assist with alumni engagement, fundraising activities and public relations as needed and requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Supervise assistant coaches
  • Supervise meet personnel

Budget Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the daily management of assigned budgets for sport programs

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred).
  • Candidates must have a minimum of three years of successful collegiate coaching responsibility for the sport of cross country and/or track and field, and show proficiency in coaching across event disciplines. Collegiate coaching experience in another sport may be considered for total years of experience.
  • Demonstrated recruiting experience to meet program competitive needs.
  • Appreciation and understanding of NCAA Division III philosophy and regulations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Must maintain CPR/AED certification.
  • Evenings and weekend work required.
  • Ability to respectfully work, communicate and provide leadership within a diverse campus community

Compensation and Benefits: Decisions about starting salaries are made based on the extent and relatedness of the candidate's education and experience and on internal equity and market considerations.
This position is exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
