Reporting to a Deputy Director of Admission, the Associate Director of Admission is a highly experienced admission officer who will manage an advanced area of work related to the focus of their Deputy Director. The associate director will be responsible for a program or initiatives that have a high-degree of complexity, scope, or visibility and will likely require delegating responsibilities and monitoring work. The associate director will serve as a mentor and role model to colleagues with less experience and interact with senior leadership to influence strategic decisions related to their specific work and the work of the division. The associate director will manage a specific recruitment territory and engage in all aspects of recruitment, evaluation, selection, yield, measurement, and planning to ensure the development of a geographic pipeline to Rice. Familiarity with highly selective admission, holistic evaluation, and recruitment is required, experience with committee-based evaluation and Slate by Technolutions is highly desired. Knowledge of Rice University and/or experience in a higher education environment is desired.

The Associate Director of Admission will be responsible for managing international recruitment of prospective undergraduates. This will include developing a long-term plan for engaging in international markets and developing metrics to track our success in these markets. The associate director will be responsible for leading training in international evaluation and recruitment and will be a strong partner in developing overall recruitment plans and initiatives for the division. Experience in international admission is essential.

Experience Preferred

- Employment in higher education administration, secondary school teaching, or administrative experience
- Experience in a highly selective university or college admission office
- Experience in highly selective admission, financial aid, and/or student services
- Experience with leading recruitment, evaluation, selection, yield, and staff training pertaining to International students
- High level of competence with respect to international travel logistics

License/Certification Required

Must possess (or have the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire) and maintain a valid Texas driver’s license with no more than three moving violations and/or at fault accidents within the past 36 months, and no convictions or deferred dispositions for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) or Driving Under the Influence (DUI) within the past five years.

Physical Demands

Frequently perform desk based computer tasks, seated work and use light/ fine grasping. Occasionally lift, carry, push pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds. Occasional stand for a few hours – at a college fair or giving a presentation.

Working Conditions

Regular work week but will require additional evening and weekend work as necessary, especially during peak processing seasons. Occasional travel is required in order to train industry events and training.

- Develops and implements strategic plans for the recruitment of top International students
- Bears primary responsibility for a specific area of focus

- Serves as a public relations and an information resource for events, meetings, committees and conferences
- May hire, train and supervise part-time seasonal readers and other staff
- Performs all other duties as assigned
