RN-Clinical Research Nurse

Job description


The RN-Clinical Research Nurse in the Lewis Katz School ofMedicine’s Thoracic Medicine and Surgery (TMS) Department will be responsiblefor the day to day activities surrounding clinical research studies, and willensure compliance with federal, state and university regulations. The incumbentwill work with investigators on multiple active protocols and will interactclosely with the sponsors from qualification visits to close-out visits. 

Primary responsibilities include: performingnursing assessments and procedures; participating in the review and preparationof protocols for clinical trials; recruiting and enrolling study subjects, andcoordinating visits; obtaining informed consent; scheduling patient admissionsrelated to study procedures; serving as a patient advocate, and educating andcounseling patients and families; ensuring that clinical trials are followed byclinical research staff; monitoring patient care, and assessing patient statusand treatment side effects; maintaining regulatory documentation and managingIRB submissions and follow-ups; and overseeing data collection and managementin accordance with trial protocol. In addition, the incumbent is responsiblefor assisting with budget preparation and tracking of expenditures. Performs otherduties as assigned. 

Required Education and Experience: 
Professional licensure as a Registered Nurse inthe Commonwealth of PA, with previous research experience in a research and/orclinical trials setting. 

Required Skills and Abilities: 
*Ability to apply scientific principles toproblem solving, planning, as well as providing and evaluating nursingcare. 
*Working knowledge of computer applicationsincluding MS Office. 
*Ability to work independently and as part of aninter-disciplinary team. 
*Demonstrated interpersonal, communication, andcustomer service skills. 
*Proven organizational and time managementskills with a strong attention to detail. 
*Ability to travel to other off-site clinicalsites. 
*Ability to work overtime and nights/weekends/earlymornings, as needed. 

*Bachelor’s degree in Nursing. 
*ACLS certification. 
*Experience in a critical care setting.
