DescriptionThe Associate Scientist for the Lewis Katz School of Medicine's ThrombosisResearch Center will perform scientific experiments; and willhave in-depth technical and theoretical knowledge as well as expertise inmolecular biology, virology and animal model study. Responsiblefor independently performing a wide range of research functions based on agreedprotocols and objectives and managing day-to-day research activities.  The incumbent will study the activationmechanism of platelets. The methods to be used include tissue culture, molecularand cell biology procedures, flow cytometry, and in vivo experiments in various mousemodels. Theincumbent will perform literary research and participating in the developmentof researchprotocols.

 The Associate Scientist will also be responsible fordesigning and executing experimental protocols for assigned projects; servingas an authoritative source on research practices, precedents, theory, andprinciples; supervising undergraduate students in the lab; ensuring allprojects are completed in a timely fashion; maintain and keeping accuraterecords

of isotopeusage as mandated by the Radiation Safety Officer; performing literary research andparticipating in the development of research protocols; and maintaining laboratoryequipment in working order. Performs other duties as assigned.

 Required Education and Experience:Ph.D. degree in biology, molecular biology, virology,immunology, or other related areas in life sciences, and at least four years related researchexperience. Anequivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

 Required Skills and abilities:*Demonstrated expertise with research methods such as tissue culture, Western blotting analysis, and flow cytometry.*Demonstrated ability to perform in vivo experiments in various mousemodels.

*Must be able to work with potential hazardous specimens.*Ability to keep accurate records of research performed to NIHstandards.

*Excellent interpersonal skills, along with the ability to interactwith a diverse population of students, faculty, and staff.

*Excellent written and verbal communication skills.*Ability to operate standard office equipment and softwareincluding MS office.

*Demonstrated organizational and prioritization skills, along withthe ability to handle multiple tasks in a deadline driven work environment.
