Accreditation Liaison Officer (ALO) works with the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) and its staff on matters of accreditation. In addition, s/he will also oversee specialty, programmatic accreditation for various schools within the institution.
The ALO is directly responsible for administrative oversight of the university's accreditation, strategic, and integrated planning processes. S/he helps ensure a strong relationship between the HLC and institution.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Serving as an additional recipient of HLC communications regarding the institution’s accreditation
- Disseminating information and answering questions about HLC policies and procedures for all audiences within the institution
- Staying current with HLC policies and procedures
- Providing oversight and direction for the institution’s Data Update Coordinator to ensure the currency, accuracy and timeliness of information submitted to HLC as part of the Institutional Update.
- Facilitating responses to HLC inquiries, including complaints referred by HLC staff to the chief executive officer
- Maintaining the institution’s file of official documents and reports related to the institution's relationship with HLC.
- Providing comments to HLC as requested in its consideration of proposed policies, procedures and issues affecting the accreditation relationship
- Ensuring that any changes in basic institutional information are reported to HLC. Ensuring that the institution meets its financial obligations to HLC through the timely payment of dues and fees.
- Responsible for tracking changes at HLC, works collaboratively to problem-solve with HLC, executes and submits deliverables
- Acts as the internal consultant on HLC matters, updates broader team as needed and is responsible for regular compliance audits
- As required, architects, writes, edits, reviews, and manages HLC change applications, understands timelines and decision-making processes
- Looks for ways to provide solutions to improve/advance strategy while being compliant
- Coordinates and presents updates to CU Board of Directors as needed
- Attends annual HLC meeting
Job Skills:
- Demonstrated distinguished written and oral language skills
- Ability to work with a high degree of autonomy, trust, and confidentiality
- A track record and demonstrated successes in the HLC standard pathway accreditation, and programmatic accreditation
- Ability to collect and interpret qualitative and quantitative research data
- Ability to collect and interpret rules and regulations from federal and state agencies and accreditors
- In-depth knowledge of higher education accreditation practices and policy trends
- In-depth knowledge of teaching methods, assessment methods, and student learning
- Demonstrated knowledge of current issues of academic standards and student learning assessment
- Strong computer experience, which must include ability to work effectively with MS Office suite products, i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
Work Experience:
- Minimum of five years professional level work in academic administration, planning, analysis and management in higher education is required
- Knowledge of the organizational environment of higher education and specifically HLC standard pathway accreditation processes
Education:
Masters required, PhD preferred, Degrees must be granted by an regionally-accredited institution
