Bergen Community College, the No. 1 institution in New Jersey for associate degree graduates four years in a row, serving a diverse student body on its suburban campus, has a leadership opportunity for an Assistant Director of Purchasing and Services. The Assistant Director will work closely with the Director of Purchasing to develop current and future procurement strategies in support of a College-wide procurement plan and will be responsible for leading the day-to-day activities of a team of procurement professionals/buyers. The Assistant Director will also act as the lead for all procurement-related IT systems and initiatives to ensure evolving business and regulatory requirements are met while providing proper business oversight, appropriate financial controls and efficient operational processing. The Assistant Director directly supervises the Buyer and Sr. Buyer in the department.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or related field required; NJ public purchasing certification a plus. Minimum of seven (7) years of purchasing experience, preferably in the public sector, including experience with developing Invitations for Bid, Requests for Proposals, Requests for Quotations and Requests for Qualifications. Familiarity with higher education purchasing or public sector purchasing preferred. Experience in the procurement of a variety of commodities, services, construction contracts and equipment; Knowledgeable and keeps current on changes to public purchasing laws that may impact procurement contracts and processes; has the demonstrated ability to develop procedures/processes; demonstrates skill to work with a variety of computer software, including ERP software for procurement, database management, and technologically proficient in common office desktop software; exhibits strong skills in leadership, managing people, communication, customer and student focus, building relationships, organizing and planning.
