Position Summary

Big Bend Community College invites applications for Childcare Aide positions in the college's Learning Center. BBCC is a small rural community college located in the sunny, central part of Washington State, and is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities. Big Bend Community College serves over 5,000 students annually, with an annualized FTE of approximately 2,100, in a 4,600-square-mile service district including 15 communities in Grant and Adams counties and the Odessa School District in Lincoln County with on-site, online instruction, and interactive classrooms.

The Learning Center at Big Bend Community College is looking for dependable and punctual individuals as Childcare Aides. These positions wil assist with providing childcare services to children and their families at the Learning Center. Work schedule will be determined by the needs of the Learning Center Childcare, up to 16 hours per week.

Essential Job Duties

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Assist in providing a safe and healthy learning environment for children. Follow all state and federal regulations regarding instructional practices, fire, health, and safety standards, to include hand washing, laundry, and housekeeping practices.
  • Assist with supervision of children's activities and enter into children's free play, outdoor activities, field trips, songs, games, and other activities as assigned.
  • Assist with observations, evaluations and provide information for each child as requested by the childcare manager.
  • Follow Learning Center Childcare procedures to receive and discharge the children from the center.
  • Assist children in developing social and self-help skills (i.e. eating with children, brushing teeth, etc.).
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary environment by washing and disinfecting furniture, equipment, and toys on the posted schedule according to health regulations.
  • Assist with maintaining and completing attendance records, meal counts, and sign-in sheets.
  • Attend staff meeting, and participate in training sessions.
  • Maintain agency confidentiality regarding child and parent information.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Required Work Environment:
Must be able to lift and maneuver children who may weigh up to 50 pounds or more. Lifting requires the ability to lift children four-weeks through 5 years of age on an ongoing basis. Diaper changing and assisting in toilet training is required. Physical dexterity to work with small children; i.e. stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, grasping, standing, lifting, climbing, walking, running quickly. Work will be performed in both inside and outside environments.

Conditions of Employment:
This position requires a pre-employment Tuberculin skin test; complete and pass a Department of Early Learning criminal history background check & fingerprint upon employment; a food handlers card; attend Blood borne Pathogen/HIV/Aids training within 30 days of employment and 30 hours of Washington State Training and Registry system (STARS) training within 6 months.
Minimum & Desirable Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be at least 16 years old.
  • Must work under the supervision of a lead child care center person.

ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bilingual and bicultural in English/Spanish or English/Ukrainian/Russian
