The Division of Hematology & Oncology at the UNC School of Medicine is recruiting for a fixed term Research Assistant Professor. The Division is seeking candidates with a combined expertise in coagulation, inflammation and sickle cell disease. The successful candidate will be expected to direct an independent research program that focuses on coagulation in sickle cell disease in order to advance investigational sickle cell disease treatment strategies, compete for extramural and intramural funding, pursue collaborations, and utilize core facilities at UNC.

Educational Requirements

A doctorate in a related field, such as biology, pharmacology, biochemistry, or physiology.

Qualifications and Experience

A minimum of five years of experience with (1) the breeding, genetics, and physiology of mouse models of sickle cell disease, and bone marrow transplantation to generate sickle cell chimeric mice (2) assays to evaluate coagulation activation, inflammation, tissue culture of primary and transformed cell lines, biochemical assays (western blots), molecular biology assays (RT-PCR, PCR), flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, and immunocytochemistry.
Extensive knowledge of coagulation, inflammation, and organ function is required along with an excellent track record of obtaining extramural funding to support independent research, excellent publication record combined with exceptional written and oral communication skills, demonstrated by presentations at national and international scientific meetings.
