Job Description Summary

The Associate Director is responsible for the safety and security of the students, faculty, staff and visitors to Husson University. The Associate Director also maintains a safe environment and minimizes potential for loss or damage on all property controlled by Husson University. The Associate Director maintains the security of our Campus by assuring that all areas are patrolled by trained Security Officers 24/7, and that the Husson University Community Code of Conduct, along with state and local statutes, are enforced.

The Associate Director, is required to recognize potential safety concerns and to take measures to mitigate those concerns. The Associate Director responds to disturbances, mitigates disruptive conduct and responds to emergency situations as needed for tactical command. The Associate Director also coordinates with all local, county and state agencies as necessary to maintain the safety of the Campus and has direct supervision of the Lieutenant, First Sergeant, Sergeant, Patrol Detective, Corporal, and all full-time and part time officers.

The salary will be in the range of $60,000

Duties and Responsibilities

• Assume administrative and operational command of department in the absence
of the Executive Director
• Participate on the Title IX Committee and investigative process if necessary
• Be proficient with interviewing victims, witnesses, suspects in investigative matters
• Be proficient and current with requirements of the Jeanne Clery Act
• Provide safety related training and presentations to our community
• Be available for media interviews and speak for the university on safety related issues
• Serve on the Emergency Planning Committee and in the absence of the Executive Director serve on the Emergency Management Team during critical incidents
• Serve as department training coordinator assuring that all officers are trained in accordance with department and university policy
• In the absence of the First Sergeant, administer department payroll and attendance records for approval by Executive Director
• Administer and manage the department’s electronic ticketing, citation, and vehicle registration processes
• Administer and track the department incident management system
• Ascertain compliance with DOE (Clery Act) reporting standards
• In the absence of the Executive Director, serve as the liaison for the department to the Dean of Student life.
• Maintain department discipline and report disciplinary actions to the Executive Director
• Report disciplinary concerns needing further attention to the Executive Director
• The Associate Director will be familiar and able to assume all duties and responsibilities of the Executive Director, First Sergeant, Sergeant, Patrol Detective, and all full and part time Duty Officers
• In the absence of the First Sergeant, the Associate Director will assure that all scheduled and detail shifts have adequate coverage
• Must be familiar with, and in the absence of the Executive Director, be able to activate emergency notification systems on campus (e.g., e2Campus, ATI system, and the EAGLE SAFE mobile app).

• The Associate Director must demonstrate decisive confident leadership abilities
• Must have attention to detail and respond promptly and professionally when necessary
• Possess excellent public speaking skills
• Possess experience in a leadership role with critical incident management, ICS, and NIMS
• Be comfortable speaking with the media and representing the university on safety related matters
• Have experience with the incident management process
• Be able to prioritize / organize and follow-up when needed
• Have excellent verbal and written skills, and be able to complete computer generated reports
• Be a clear thinker, display the ability to remain calm and show good judgment when resolving problems
• Follow directions thoroughly, speak and interact with students, staff and
visitors as necessary
• Experience with policy/procedure development
• Experience with the Strategic Planning process
• Work cohesively with co-workers as part of a team
• Work with minimal supervision
• Maintain confidentiality of departmental and University information
• Must be certified or be willing and have the ability to be certified in First Aid, CPR/AED, OCAT, and CPI
• Must possess a valid Maine Drivers License, or if a license is held from another state, be able to obtain a Maine drivers license within 30 days of hiring date

Education: Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred, in Criminal Justice or related field of study.

Experience: A minimum of five years of proven leadership experience in the security/law enforcement field required with emphasis on "Community Orientation.” Must be computer literate.
