The Walker College of Health Professions at Maryville University (St. Louis, MO), invites applications for a full-time, 9.5-month faculty position, as an Assistant Professor in Exercise Science with a start date of August 1, 2019.

The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in teaching a range of undergraduate exercise science courses such as Biomechanics/Kinesiology, Exercise Physiology, Exercise Testing and Prescription, Care & Prevention of Injuries, Nutrition, and/or Human Performance. Candidates must have the ability to merge practical experiences with innovative teaching and the engagement of undergraduate students. Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities:

•Instruct assigned course as specified in the schedule, course contract, and provided curriculum
•Participate in welcome orientation (in person or digitally) to become familiar with the University’s mission, academic policies and procedures, expectations, and Canvas (Learning Management System)
•Prepare essential learning objectives, lesson plans, assignments, and digital lectures/screencasts (as necessary). Develop course syllabus.
•Clearly communicate course objectives and learning outcomes, teaching methodology, and assignments, using available technology with Canvas
•Employ a variety of teaching styles in order to effectively deliver course content demonstrating both academic and real-world/practical applications of concepts covered
•Create an active learning ecosystem through discussion topics, assignments, group projects, etc.
•Provide feedback and grade assignments in a timely and thorough manner (< 2 weeks)
•Establish digital office hours through the use of University conferencing tools to provide additional assistance with student questions/concerns
•Report early alerts for students who are not actively engaging in the course
•Additional duties, as assigned, will vary based on course(s) taught

Minimum Qualifications

•Master’s degree in a health or exercise sciences-related discipline
•Active membership, certification, and involvement in health and/or exercise sciences-related professional organizations (NSCA or CSCCa preferred)
•3 years of practice experience in an exercise science-related field
•Demonstrated understanding of evidence-based practice and the ability to merge practical experiences with innovative teaching and the engagement of undergraduate students

Preferred Qualifications

•Terminal degree from an accredited institution in a related field; Doctoral candidates (ABD) will be considered provided graduate coursework is within the Health, Human Performance, and/or Sports Science realm
