Academic Advisor- Upward Bound

BRIEF JOB SUMMARY:

This is a 12-month, full-time position requiring some evening and weekend work. The Upward Bound Academic Advisor provides educational and career guidance to high school students as part of a program designed to encourage high school and college completion. Duties include identifying, recruiting, and selecting participants; collecting and maintaining data; conducting small group sessions; designing and participating in program activities (some of which may require physical exertion); collaboration with school personnel and parents. The Upward Bound Academic Advisor also assists in facilitating the program’s 6-week Summer Academy. This immersive academy requires the academic advisor to provide on-ground services to program participants residing on campus. The Upward Bound Academic Advisor must have a commitment to the philosophy and goals of the program and excellent interpersonal and communication skills

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • A bachelor’s degree is required and master’s degree preferred;
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in TRIO Programs, education, social or behavioral science, counseling, student personnel, or related field;
  • Knowledge and understanding of disadvantaged students; and
  • Demonstrated competence in interpersonal skills.
