The Department of English in the College of Arts and Sciences at Clayton State University seeks applicants for two non-tenure-track, full-time, renewable lecturer positions in English to teach first-year writing, learning support, and English majors’ courses in writing, both face-to-face and online. The position is an academic year, renewable appointment that reports to the Chair of the Department of English and will begin on August 1, 2019. Salary will be commensurate with experience and competitive with comparable programs.
The Department of English offers undergraduate degrees and minors in English, with concentrations in writing (creative and professional), literature, and secondary education. The department also teaches first-year writing and literature survey courses in the general education curriculum. It offers English courses in two graduate degree programs: the multidisciplinary Master of Arts in Liberal Studies and the Master of Arts in Teaching in English. - Teach undergraduate first-year writing courses, learning support courses, and English majors’ courses, both online and seated; load is 5-5 with optional summer teaching;
- Support assessment of first-year writing, currently through eportfolios;
- Hold office hours and be accessible to students;
- Engage in professional development and participate in committee service to department, college, university, and community.
- An earned Ph.D. (or M.F.A.) in English, with coursework and/or experience in Rhetoric, Composition, and/or Writing Studies. ABD candidates with a firm dissertation defense date may be considered.
- A record of excellent college teaching;
- Evidence of successful experience in teaching first-year writing;
- Knowledge of the application of technology to enhance teaching and learning;
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Evidence of successful experience teaching writing at the college level;
- Knowledge and/or experience in teaching learning support courses
