DescriptionJob Purpose: Perform advanced technical work for the design and fabrication ofcomplex precision components and mechanical devices and electro-mechanicalequipment and structures. May develop manufacturing techniques and systems,operate machine tools, power and manual hand tools. Assist faculty, researchengineers and students in designing parts, assemblies and apparatus to befabricated in the machine shop. Maintain mechanical equipment andrecords/inventory of tools and materials; may assist with testingelectro-mechanical equipment and using experimental apparatus and equipment.Advise staff and students in making design projects.

 Major Responsibilities:
  • Design and fabricate complex precision components and mechanical devices and structures. May use manual milling machines, lathes, drills and portable power tools. Other equipment may include saws, metal brakes, welding and painting equipment, plating and refrigeration equipment, electric power tools, hydraulic test equipment, pneumatic power tools and hand tools.
  • Maintain inventory of tools and materials; maintain appropriate mechanical equipment and records.
  • May produce CAD documentation for mechanical components.
  • Assist faculty and students with design, use of experimental apparatus, and fabrication of teaching and research equipment.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Basic Qualifications:
  • Education: Technical Diploma, Associate's degree or two years of college course work.
  • Work Experience: Six to eight years of job related experience.
  • Certifications: N/A
  • Skills: Position may require usingsome or all of the following: metal machining operations, laser equipment,electrical/electronic instrumentation, machine tools, ability to maintainequipment, operate hand/power tools and hydraulic/pneumatic equipment; designequipment and/or machinery (CAD), job planning, layout, sawing, drilling,reaming, threading, finishing, Turning, 3-axis vertical milling operations.Knowledge of shop safety procedures, effective verbal and writtencommunications skills, organizational skills, self-motivation and the abilityto work within deadline
