The Instructional Designer position will provide assistance in the development of online course design and delivery and recommend best practices for both traditional and adult learners. This position will also serve as an integral part of a team involved with consulting and support instructional design services to faculty. The Instructional Designer will work with faculty on the creation of high quality web-enhanced and online courses which effectively use technology to enhance teaching and learning. The Instructional Designer will also ensure consistency and efficiency in course design and technology adoption and will research new technologies and pedagogies as needed to serve this mission.

Minimum Requirements

Masters’ Degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, or Educational Technology or related educational field with comparable work experience in Instructional Design

List the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the essential functions of the position

- Expert level in training and design and development theory
- Understands and applies project management skills
- Understands design rubrics such as Quality Matters
- Demonstrates strong presentation skills
- Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently
- Ability to use eAuthoring tools and multimedia
- Familiarity with various instructional methods and assessment strategies
- Designer experience with Learning Management Systems
- Communicates clearly in written and verbal form and converts technical situations into plain English
- Effectively collaborates with campus community from faculty to administration

Preferred formal education, professional skills and work experience

- Previous experience teaching online

- Doctorate in Instructional Technology or related field

Primary purpose of the division, department, and/or grant

The Office of eLearning primary function falls under Academic Affairs Distance Education. The unit provides services to faculty in the development of online courses. eLearning Instructional Designers consult with faculty and support design of online courses to create high quality online courses. The outcome of this service is to enhance teaching and learning for faculty and students.
