The Department of Applied Ecology is a growing, vibrant and productive unit within CALS and a supportive, collaborative academic setting. Faculty strengths are in the areas of ecology, fisheries, aquaculture, conservation biology, environmental toxicology, and related fields. Research in these fields drives a strong, well-funded graduate program, effective extension and outreach, and graduate and undergraduate mentoring, teaching and advising. The Department hosts faculty in the NC Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit, SE Climate Science Center, and Center for Marine Sciences and Technology.

Essential Job Duties

As a lecturer, this position will have full responsibility for teaching courses in the area of ecology, generally at the undergraduate level, with class sizes typically in the range of 20 – 50 students. Associated responsibilities include developing core course materials (lectures, exams, teaching materials, etc.), teaching lecture and/or laboratory sections, holding regularly scheduled office hours each week, administering and grading exams, supervising Teaching Assistants, and managing all other aspects of producing and delivering departmental courses.

Responsibility also includes administering the Applied Ecology minor program, which may consist of 25 – 50 students. Candidates interested in innovative teaching and the scholarship of teaching particularly encouraged to apply; the opportunity may exist to participate in the development of a new major.

Other Work/Responsibilities

Driving a vehicle to and from field trip sites may be required, including student transport.

Minimum Education/Experience

Master’s degree in Ecology, Science Education or related degree.
