JOSEPH WHARTON, FOUNDER
In 1881, American entrepreneur and industrialist Joseph Wharton established the world’s first collegiate school of business at the University of Pennsylvania.

Duties

The successful candidate will communicate PWBM’s policy analysis capabilities to public officials. Additionally, the director of outreach will track the U.S. federal government’s legislative agenda to anticipate upcoming policies that can be analyzed using PWBM’s economic models, supporting the work of providing direction for model development.

The director will work to elevate the output of PWBM by designing a plan to reach lawmakers and working with a wide range of stakeholders to ensure that PWBM maximizes its impact by being a go-to source for facts and analysis on the public’s top policy priorities. Previous technical experience with either economic modeling or interpreting statistical results is valued. Since the director will work directly with influential individuals including lawmakers and their staff, excellent communication skills are a must, and contacts in Congress as well as at other top policy organizations are a plus.

Must be able to work with a team and under tight deadlines. Strong people skills, self-motivation, good judgment, and accountability are essential, as well as a demonstrated knowledge of economics and public policy. Two-year position subject to renewal based on the discretion of faculty director and available funds.

Qualifications

At least a masters plus a minimum of seven years of work experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Previous technical experience with either economic modeling or interpreting statistical results is valued.
Excellent communication skills are a must, and contacts in Congress as well as at other top policy organizations are a plus.
Must be able to work with a team and under tight deadlines.
Strong people skills, self-motivation, good judgment, and accountability are essential.
Must have a demonstrated knowledge of economics and public policy.
