Duties

Reporting to the Associate Vice President, Strategy, Planning and Advancement Services (AVPSPS), the (Senior) Executive Director, Strategy, Engagement and Campaign serves as the chief strategist for DAR Communications, Marketing and Campaign Engagement Initiatives. She/he oversees Development and Alumni Relations Marketing and Communication, University Volunteer Support, Campaign Operations and Strategic Writing Project areas.

This role provides oversight to Development & Alumni Relations Marketing & Communications (DARMAX); directs and connects the work done throughout Central DAR Communication areas to support the department’s goal to increase engagement of donors, prospects, alumni and other key stakeholders; oversees the work of Volunteer Support including directly working with leadership volunteers and committees; provides support to all aspects of Penn’s comprehensive campaign, with specific focus on the central campaign volunteer support, communications, central priorities and goals, and central campaign management.

This position works under the AVPSPS’ direction and in partnership with the other central frontline and service areas, school and centers to support the planning and execution of the University level campaign. This role serves as a central resource and as a connector to the many areas, units and staff involved in university level DAR strategies and execution (during campaign and non-campaign periods) and provides leadership and support through this ongoing and dynamic process as the campaign is built, executed and concluded. This position may be called on to represent the AVP internally or externally as needed.

Note: while the title of this position includes ‘campaign,’ this position is a permanent member of the Development & Alumni Relations Central Strategic Planning & Services team.

Qualifications

Bachelors Degree required, Masters preferred; 10 or more years of progressively responsible experience in Development preferably with a portion of that experience in a complex higher education environment.

Experience and demonstrated success in a senior development role developing, managing and executing strategies and tactics.
Knowledge and experience in professional communication and marketing. Expert communicator and the capacity to write, edit and produce high quality development communication tools.

Direct experience should include: frontline major gifts, staff and volunteer management, direct support to highest levels (governance) of volunteer boards and committees, direct management of communication strategy and marketing areas, and strategic planning.

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across departments, units or areas within an organization to achieve strategic goals. Proven ability to work with senior institutional leadership.

Ability and demonstrated success in establishing objectives, setting performance standards, and inspiring and motivating staff to achieve optimum results. Willingness and ability to travel on behalf of the university, participate in campus and offsite events and programs including weekends and evenings on occasion and maintains a valid driver’s license.
