Work Conditions: Employee is subject to both indoor and outdoor environmental conditions. Employee may be required to wear respiratory protection, hearing protection and other personal protective equipment on a daily basis.
Physical Demands: Work is categorized as medium, which requires the ability to lift and carry 50 pounds. Work involves reaching, prolonged above shoulder level activities, ladder climbing, squatting, kneeling, pushing, pulling, negotiating stairs, grasping, and using hand and/or power equipment. Applicants will be required to complete a physical prior to hiring.
Duties of Position:
Responsible for skilled work in the performance of general carpentry; plumbing; maintenance; service and repair of electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures. Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns within or outside normal working hours. Must be able to work shift work, weekends, and holidays.
Responsible for preventive and corrective maintenance on all buildings and facilities
Responsible for installing, repairing, replacing, and maintaining all electrical systems including but not limited to: power sources, electrical distribution panels, motors, generators, transformers, interior and exterior lighting, light poles, fire alarm and alarm systems underground wiring and electrical circuits.
Performs electrical testing and testing surveys
Maintains and repairs all plumbing systems and accessories of water supplies, such as sewer, and storm lines and related equipment, including valves and motors
Performs carpentry work in the alteration, repair and maintenance of all buildings and structures; including but not limited to walls, partitions, furniture, cabinets, fixtures and ceilings.
Performs building floor covering installation and repair including but not limited to; carpet, floor tile, sheet goods and carpentry.
Repairs, maintains and performs preventive maintenance on roofs, flashing, caulking and metal work
Lays out, pours and finishes concrete as required. Repairs Masonry and minor tuck pointing.
Repairs, replaces, maintains, and performs preventative maintenance on doors and windows.
Paints and performs all related work as required
Operates and maintains all power and hand tools relating to job
Selects proper materials and tools for each job
May assist in preparation of cost estimates, material orders, record keeping and reports
Repairs and maintains the campus lock systems
Operates motorized vehicles including but not limited to: trucks, vans, gators, and lifts
Maintains proper cleaning, housekeeping and storage of materials in shop, at job sites and other related areas
Inspects College property and observes activities on College property for unsafe conditions which may lead to injury, takes appropriate action to correct any unsafe practice or condition and reports all other potential safety hazards to supervisor.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Educational Requirements: High school or equivalent.
Experience Requirements: Five year’s experience. Knowledge and developed skills in all phases of electrical installation and repair, carpentry and plumbing. Ability to read blueprints and wiring diagrams. Skill in the maintenance and use of tools, equipment and material of the trade. Prefer knowledge of welding. Valid Illinois Driver’s License required.
Employee must operate the following tools:
Carpentry tools
Masonry tools
Power lift
Plumbing tools
Extension ladders and scaffolding.
Use of personal protective equipment (i.e.: gloves, goggles, etc.) when required.
Other related tools as required
Motorized and electric vehicles
