The Systems Analyst I installs, configures, administers and provides ongoing maintenance support to Enterprise servers and associated systems. Monitors server performance and storage capacity for physical and virtual server environments.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Specific Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Troubleshoots systems and hardware issues.
  2. Coordinates production maintenance schedules on a daily, weekly, monthly basis.
  3. Periodically performs system updates and other systems functions during off-peak hours, such as evenings and weekends.
  4. Participates in the department technology projects and in the analysis, implementation and testing phases.
  5. Provides infrastructure maintenance and support for physical and virtual servers.
  6. Manages server systems security, including the creation and maintenance of security templates for baseline compliance.
  7. Monitors and maintains automated reports and scripts.
  8. Responsible for maintaining knowledge of third party products and its capabilities, to assist other teams with application installation, testing and troubleshooting.
  9. Assists in the development of procedures and guidelines related to the Systems area and performs continuous analysis and improvements of systems operations.
  10. Implements and supports Distributed File Systems.
  11. Supports a 24×7 computing environment in collaboration with the Information Technology Department.
  12. Responsible for providing a continuation of service delivery and continuous point of contact for service users and staff alike outside of normal office working hours.
  13. Performs hardware and software licensing inventories.
  14. Forecasts storage, hardware and licensing needs.
  15. Responsible for maintaining knowledge of emerging technology requirements for continuous infrastructure improvements.
  16. Assists in the management of the Enterprise mail system for staff/faculty/students with all its hybrid connections and sub-components.
  17. Performs Active Directory operations including group policy creation and support.
  18. Travels throughout the college district, as needed.
  19. Performs other duties as assigned.

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems or related field required.
  2. At least three (3) years of technical work experience in systems required.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  1. Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  2. Strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, the Windows environment, internet research skills, macro reporting and IT project management.
  3. Knowledge and work experience with UNIX, Windows, Storage Area Network (SAN), Virtual Machines (VM), Application Load Balancing, Networking, Security practices, Active Directory, Exchange/cloud email systems.
  4. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  5. Familiarity with disaster recovery procedures and practices.
  6. Ability to prioritize, organize, and complete multiple tasks with attention to detail, within stated deadlines.
  7. Ability to work independently as well as a team player within department and with others.
  8. Ability to adapt to constant change and periods of fast-paced, high-intensity work situations.
  9. Ability to work evenings and/or weekends as needed; willing to travel throughout the college district using own means of reliable transportation.
  10. Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with a diverse, multi-cultural college population.
  11. Demonstrated commitment to achieving the vision and mission of South Texas College.
  12. Ability to read and interpret documents such as technical and professional manuals, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  13. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  14. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
  15. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  16. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Checks, Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations
  1. All applicants are subject to a national criminal background check under South Texas College policy.

  3. Must have a valid Texas driver’s license and proof of liability insurance.
  4. Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer, preferred.
  5. CompTIA A+, CompTIA Net+, MCSA, CCNA certifications, preferred.
Physical Requirements
  1. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  2. Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.
  3. Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.
  4. Picking, pinching, typing, or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.
  5. Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
  6. Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction.
  7. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discrimination in sound.
  8. Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. Occurs to a considerable degree and requires substantial use of upper extremities and back muscles.
  9. Ability to make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes.
  10. Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word including the ability to convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately and concisely.
  11. Standing particularly for sustained periods of time.
  12. Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. Occurs to a considerable degree and requires full motion of the lower extremities and back muscles.
  13. Close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; and/or extensive reading.
  14. Mobility to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
