The Director, Governmental Affairs directs and coordinates the planning and implementation of the College’s various government affairs activities, programs, and initiatives. Sets strategic direction, provides integrative leadership, and recommends institutional policies and standards of practice to ensure that all government relations efforts effectively and efficiently support the College's overall mission, goals, and strategic objectives. This is a Professional Exempt Contractual (PEC) position for which an annual contract reflecting the base salary within the fiscal year (July 1st to June 30th) will be issued after ratification by Miami Dade College’s District Board of Trustees.

    Acts as the College’s liaison to the Florida State Legislature, and U.S. Congress. Develops strategic communication plans to advocate for critical issues prior to each legislative session Serves as the liaison and monitors the activities of state policy boards, agencies and committees, such as the State Board of Education, the Board of Governors, the Office of Program Policy Analysis and Government Accountability, the Florida Council of Presidents, the Florida Association of Community Colleges, and coordinates the College’s interest in matters before the boardsCoordinates lobbying efforts on behalf of the College locally, state-wide and with the Federal government Conducts policy analysis and prepares comprehensive reports regarding federal and state legislative and administrative actions and their potential impact on the CollegeStrategizes with the College President and senior College leadership on proposed legislation, policies or rules that may affect the mission and operations of the College, its students and facultyOversees the College’s federal legislative interests, and periodically reviews the performance of consultantsDevelops and oversees distribution of a variety of informational materials, including financial documents, to special interest groups, state and federal policy makersDevelops, produces and presents the annual legislative issues package to internal and external interest groups, and coordinates the college’s lobbying effortsOrganizes and coordinates advocacy efforts of the College advocacy teamsDrafts College-sponsored legislation, amendments, resolutions and position papers related to policy positions taken by the CollegeConducts legal research regarding legislative issues and higher education policiesCoalesces support from local civic and business leaders and community organizations when needed to promote legislative issues impacting the CollegePerforms other duties as assigned

  • Master’s degree in Public Administration, Education or related field and six (6) years of experience; or Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Education or related field and ten (10) years of experience
