Job Description Summary

The Assistant Director of Greek Life & Community Engagement, who reports to the Director of Student Activities, is responsible for working with the Greek Life community and for creating service and mission (in collaboration with Campus Ministry) opportunities for University Campus students/faculty/staff. The Assistant Director will consistently demonstrate the character and values that support the richness of our Catholic and Benedictine identity while providing programs and services that enhance student-learning outcomes and student success.

In addition, the Assistant Director is responsible for contributing to other aspects of the Student Activities office including purposeful programming meant to promote student engagement, enhancing the sense of community on campus, increasing service-learning opportunities, improving Saint Leo pride and student retention, furthering student leadership development, and advancing the educational value of the student involvement experience.

Job Description

The Assistant Director must assist in developing student leaders through a student-centered approach.  Particular attention should be given to provide programming initiatives that support the University’s Strategic Plan and in particular, the institutional Core Values.

  • Coordinate, advise, and assist Greek life organizations with membership, events, learning, and success
  • Provide leadership retreats and on-going workshops for Greek Life organizations and advisors
  • Advise the Greek Life governing councils
  • Supervise the Graduate Assistant of Greek Life and Community Engagement
  • Work with external governance regarding Greek Life organizations
  • Expand and coordinate a comprehensive program for service-learning and community engagement opportunities for the University Campus student body; creatively include events and opportunities for Center and online students to engage in community service
  • Explore, apply, and secure local, state, and national awards and grants that recognize and support Saint Leo University as a vibrant community service/engagement institution and culture
  • Work closely with University Ministry in providing mission related trips and service activities in keeping with the Benedictine Catholic tradition
  • Coordinate the University-wide Community Service Days and other major events
  • Coordinate Alternative Break programs for SERVE (Students Engaged in Rewarding Volunteer Experience) Committee
  • Develop community relations with external service-oriented agencies
  • Oversee the operations of the Food Pantries for students and staff and work collaboratively to develop other sources of support for students in need
  • Promote and publicize programs, events, and services effectively
  • Practice strong organizational and fiscal management skills with departmental budgets
  • Work collaboratively with other University departments, faculty, and staff
  • Participate in University functions and committees as appropriate
  • Monitor and support Engage Leo utilization by Greek Organizations and with Community Engagement Opportunities
  • Represent the department, Division of Student Affairs and Saint Leo University at various events, committees, and state and national associations with other duties as assigned
  • Be an active, positive, contributing member of the department, the Division of Student Affairs and Saint Leo University

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • 1-3 years graduate and/or professional experience in Greek Life, Leadership, Community Engagement, and/or Student Activities.
  • Ability to create and implement engaging complex events, programs, and services using detailed planning, creativity, and fiscal and resource responsibility
  • Ability to engage students and others professionally, warmly, and motivationally so that strong relationships are developed and goals are accomplished through healthy teamwork
  • Knowledge of student learning outcomes and assessing programs and services for the impact they have on the learning and engagement of students.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop creative and appealing student programs.

Preferred Education/Experience/Skills:

  • Professional experience working with national sororities and fraternities representing all national associations and councils
  • Professional experience with providing inclusion/diversity programming and events
  • Professional experience working with Campus Ministry to provide mission related trips and programs
  • Professional experience coordinating a food pantry for college students
