The Colorado Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (CCTSI) is a collaborative enterprise between the University of Colorado Denver, University of Colorado at Boulder, six affiliated hospitals and health care organizations, and multiple community organizations with resources to promote research and training that will advance health care and improve the public health. The CCTSI was created in 2008 with funding from the Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) initiative of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). 
With a vision to improve the 'health of the population of Colorado by speeding the translation of biomedical discoveries into prevention and intervention strategies in the community, and by reducing health disparities, the CCTSI mission supports the continued transformation of the current clinical and translational research and training efforts of all Schools at UCD and affiliated institutions into an innovative, interdisciplinary, integrated, collaborative campus and hospital-wide academic home for clinical and translational sciences, scientists and trainees.

The CCTSI department at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus has an opening for a full-time, university staff(unclassified) Program Coordinator position.  
Jobs in this career family provide direct professional support of research activities.  Functions include contracts and grants solicitation and administration, grant/agreement preparation, review and negotiation, regulatory compliance, sponsor communication and post and pre award management, human subject compliance, research animal management, research laboratory coordination and instruction, environmental health and safety, radiation control, hazardous materials use, disposal and training.
Professionals at the intermediate level are responsible for exercising discretion, analytical skill, personal accountability and responsibility in a wide range of areas including academic, administrative, managerial and student services functions. Work involves creating, integrating, applying and sharing knowledge directly related to a professional field. 
At the intermediate level, duties may be more limited in scope and are performed with guidance and direction from other professionals.
Job Summary:The CCTSI Pilot Grants Program Coordinator works extensively with individuals in all areas of the University and outside organizations to coordinate the CCTSI pilot grants program. This involves answering questions from investigators wishing to apply for a CCTSI pilot grant, assisting investigators in the process of submitting their applications, organizing the receipt of applications, review, and awarding of applications, assisting in the establishment of new funding accounts. 
This Program Coordinator operates in consultation with CCTSI Sr. Management to achieve desired outcomes; in many cases this will require the evaluation and implementation of informatics tools to collect and organize data. The decision-making process requires detailed understanding and complex analysis of policies on multiple levels. Due to the detailed nature of these program responsibilities, the successful applicant will be a highly organized individual. 
This position requires an individual with demonstrated experience working in an academic research environment. The individual should have experience in program coordination, be familiar with research administration and grants management. The successful applicant will have a broad familiarity of the University’s business support systems (CU MarketPlace, CONCUR Travel and Procurement Card expenses system, and PeopleSoft expense system). Applicants must have excellent organizational skills and be very proficient users of the Microsoft Office suite of software tools (Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint). 
The successful applicant will have a general understanding of the process of submitting grants and will be comfortable using software applications and databases to assist the processes of coordinating his/her responsibilities. This position requires extensive communication with faculty, staff, and administration both within and outside of the institution. This position requires independent action, and the use of discretion and creativity within the limits of institutional, state and federal policies. 
Examples of Work Performed:
  • Coordinate the CCTSI Pilot Grants program: Disseminate the Request for Applications (RFA), receive and preliminarily triage applications, organize and coordinate the application review process, work with the Program Director to present recommended projects to the CCTSI Executive Committee, coordinate the project award process, and evaluate financial information to reconcile project budgets.
  • Coordinate the NIH Delayed Onset Prior approval process for projects involving human subjects research or vertebrate animal research
  • Provide user support for the Colorado PROFILES application
  • Assist in the coordination of the bi-monthly CCTSI Executive Committee meetings
  • Coordinate all aspects of the CCTSI Pilot Grants Program
  • Review and edit the RFA prior to dissemination
  • Disseminate the RFA with in the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus communicate and the CCTSI affiliated organizations
  • Coordinate the receipt of applications and preform initial triage
  • Organize and coordinate the application review committee(s)
  • Assist in the preparation of proposals recommended for funding
  • Assist in the establishment of new funding accounts
  • Assist in the tracking, reconciliation, and close out of awards
  • Assist in compiling metrics data that will be presented to CCTSI leadership
  • Colorado PROFILES: Provide user support to University of Colorado faculty utilizing the system to find collaborators or assistance in editing their profiles in the system.
  • Coordinate the NIH Delayed Onset Prior Approval process. This position will work directly with investigators who have been awarded a CCTSI pilot grant that involves human subject or vertebrate animal research to gather the required documentation for submission to NIH for review and approval. These processes will be performed in consultation with the CCTSI Director of Finance and Administration.
  • Assist in the coordination and documentation of the bi-monthly CCTSI Executive Committee Meetings.

QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Biomedical Sciences, Business Administration, or a closely related discipline
  • At least one (1) year of experience in a research or project management environment, preferably in an academic medical center or research institution
  • Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year-for-year basis, but not for the specific one (1) year of experience
  • PLEASE NOTE: Candidates will be responsible for travel expenses related to the interview process and any relocation expenses, if applicable.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Biomedical Sciences, Business Administration, or a closely related discipline
  • At least two (2) years of experience in a research or project management environment, preferably in an academic medical center or research institution
  • Experience working as a clinical research study coordinator, a research technician in a basic research laboratory, or as a pre-award grants management specialist
Competencies:
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a broad range of people, including trainees, investigators, clinical and translational research staff, senior investigators, university officers, NIH personnel, and senior faculty from other institutions.
  • General knowledge of the research process and requirements in an academic research institution 
  • Ability to independently coordinate the steps and processes required of a typical pilot granting program: disseminate instructions, answer questions, receive applications, coordinate the assembly of a review committee and coordinate the issuance of awards
  • Ability to evaluate, analyze, and interpret data, recommend solutions, and implement a preferred course of action
  • Ability to communicate with various constitutes to engender trust and credibility necessary to further the CCTSI Pilot Grants Program
  • A high degree or organizational skill and professionalism
  • A thorough comfort level using information systems as tools to support workplace processes
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Education and training skills and/or user support experience
  • Outstanding customer service skills
  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion
Salary & Benefits:
  • The hiring range for this position has been established at $47,000 to $60,000 and is commensurate with skills and experience
  • This position is not eligible for overtime compensation
