1.A minimum of eighteen semester hours in accounting from an accredited college or university, plus experience with financial accounting, reporting and analysis
2.Knowledge of professional standards, financial reporting, and accounting theory.
3.Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to prioritize competing projects.
4.High level of problem-solving ability.
5.Ability to consistently meet deadlines.
6.Strong oral and written communication skills.
7.Ability to work effectively and independently with all levels of staff and management.
8.Extensive experience with and proficiency in Excel.
9.Demonstrated knowledge of automated accounting systems.
10.Ability to extract and work with large data sets.
11.Reconciliation preparation experience.

Preferred Qualifications

1.Experience with governmental accounting.
2.Experience with the preparation of financial statements or supporting schedules.
3.Familiarity with NACUBO financial accounting and reporting guidelines.
4.Experience in processing transactions and reports in Uniform Statewide Accounting System (USAS).
5.Experience with an ERP system (SAP, Banner, Peoplesoft).
6.One year of experience with financial accounting, reporting, and analysis.

Job Description

Perform professional accounting functions directly related to the integrity of the University’s financial reporting;
Coordinate the interaction between the University’s accounting system (SAP) and the Uniform Statewide Accounting System (USAS);
Ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and other authoritative guidance as it applies to governmental accounting;
Perform duties according the established policies and procedures;
Complete deadline driven assignments related to the maintenance, analysis and reporting of various accounting and financial records;
Write narratives to describe and support courses of action; and
Prepare periodic financial statements, moderately complex account reconciliations, journal entries and various ad-hoc reports and on-demand analysis.

Job Duties

Responsible for the monthly reconciliation and analysis of a variety of accounts, primarily related to state appropriations;
Review and analyze general ledger accounts for integrity as well as compliance with applicable principles, standards, guidelines, policies, and procedures;
Identify required adjustments;
Extract data, analyze financial transactions and reports;
Prepare spreadsheets and graphs to facilitate interpretation of data;
Prepare periodic financial statements;
Assist with the completion of the Annual Financial Report (AFR);
Prepare and submit various moderately complex journal entries in the University’s accounting system (SAP) and the Uniform Statewide Accounting System (USAS); and
Work as a team member to facilitate cross-training and perform duties necessary to the effective operation of the department.

Some evening and weekend hours are necessary, with peak amounts of overtime during September and October for preparation of the annual financial report and fiscal year-end close-out.
