The Office of Grants and Contracts has an opening for a full-time University Staff (unclassified) SubContract Specialist position.

Jobs in this career family provide direct professional support of research activities.  Functions include contracts and grants solicitation and administration, grant/agreement preparation, review and negotiation, regulatory compliance, sponsor communication and post and pre-award management, human subject compliance, research animal management, research laboratory coordination and instruction, environmental health and safety, radiation control, hazardous materials use, disposal and training.

Professionals at the intermediate level are responsible for exercising discretion, analytical skill, personal accountability and responsibility in a wide range of areas including academic, administrative, managerial and student services functions. Work involves creating, integrating, applying and sharing knowledge directly related to a professional field.

At the intermediate level, duties may be more limited in scope and are performed with guidance and direction from other professionals.

Position Emphasis

  • Serves as contact for the development of subcontracts related to sponsored projects for the CU Denver and CU Anschutz Medical campuses. 
  • Prepares subcontracts and amendments in accordance with relevant policies and procedures
  • Reviews and analyzes awards for terms and conditions
  • Reviews budgetary information provided by the administrative unit to ensure expense categories are properly reflected in the budget
  • Updates subcontract database
  • Resolves subcontract issues with departments and other institutions
  • Identifies issues that may need sponsor approval
  • Assists with preparation of indemnification waiver requests for incoming Contracts in working with departments and University Counsel
  • Performs other duties as assigned 
  • Regularly interacts with other offices including but not limited to the Schools/Colleges fiscal/grant administrators, Procurement Service Center and the Office of University Counsel

Candidates will be responsible for travel expenses related to the interview process and any relocation expenses, if applicable.


Salary and Benefits:

The hiring range for this position has been established at $46,000 to $50,000 and is commensurate with skills and experience.

This position is eligible for overtime compensation.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in public health, public administration, social/behavioral sciences, physical sciences, nursing, healthcare, finance, accounting, business administration, business, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.

Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Paralegal certificate or paralegal studies degree;
  • Two years of prior legal assistant or paralegal experience;
  • Professional experience providing legal support services in a higher education setting;

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.

  • Proficiency with Adobe Acrobat Pro;
  • Ability to interpret and apply complex rules and regulations, including federal and state law, administrative agency policy and procedures, and University and campus policies
  • Ability to organize, manage and administer a large volume of work
  • Attention to detail and ability to prioritize based on varying demands
