The Division of Infectious Diseases at the UNC School of Medicine is recruiting for an Assistant Professor, tenure track, faculty member. Duties include, but are not limited to, providing inpatient and ID consultative care; teaching and mentoring students, residents, and fellows in the ID ward and consult service; supporting general operations, fundraising, strategy development, partnership-building at the UNC Institute for Global Health & Infectious Diseases (IGHID); promoting programmatic and training coordination and scientific synergies between IGHID, the division of ID, and global health researchers in the UNC School of Medicine, UNC Gillings School of Public Health, and other UNC schools, institutes, and departments; obtaining NIH, USAID/CDC, and/or other extramural funding to conduct patient-oriented, public health, and/or implementation science research focused on infectious diseases and global public health in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), focusing on the core countries of the IGHID; leveraging and building the existing infrastructure and resources of UNC’s flagship research and training programs, specifically in Malawi and Zambia, but also in all the core research centers of the IGHID.

Requires travel internationally to support IGHID operational functions in Malawi, Zambia, and elsewhere

Educational Requirements

MD required
MPH or other advanced public health degree (i.e. epidemiology, health behavior, biostatistics, etc.) preferred

Qualifications and Experience

Board Certified or Board Eligible in Infectious Diseases
Medical board licensure in USA
Experience living and/or working in Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs)
Established ID research track record in LMICs as evidenced by a strong publication record
International experience mentoring trainees in global health research and practice settings – highly preferred
History of successfully obtaining NIH and other extramural funding – highly preferred
Administrative leadership role experience in a university, NGO, or academic institution – preferred
