Instructional Designer, Center for Learning & Innovation

POSITION SUMMARY

The ideal candidate will provide leadership to teams of committed professionals in the design of meaningful learning opportunities for thousands of IWU students. Instructional designers lead high-quality course design and development by collaborating with project stakeholders to align efforts with the Quality Matters standards, adult learning theory, the institutionally developed quality course rubric, and learning outcomes. Instructional designers must engage well with peers, faculty, and staff with a focus on service, collaboration, and effective communication. Technical skills using current software applications for online collaboration, project management, and the design and development of e-learning tools in the IWU LMS will be required within this role. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, creative, and thrive in challenging situations where continuous learning is an expectation.

Reportsto the Director of Learning and Innovation

Education Requirements:

Earned master’s degree in instructional design, educational technology, adult education or related field.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work as part of the Instructional Design team.
  • Advise and consult with faculty in the design and development of program curriculum and course materials (both e-learning and traditional) for onsite and online education.
  • Investigate the application of new technologies, pedagogies, andragogy, and instructional strategies in the delivery of quality learning experiences.
  • Apply innovative thinking to course design and development.
  • Design and/or develop engaging digital assets for courses or programs
  • Communicate effectively with students, faculty, and academic administrators as a representative of the Center for Learning and Innovation.
  • Consult on all aspects of the quality course rubric among faculty and academic leaders.
  • Collaborate with associate instructional designers and e-learning developers on the team to manage new course projects (and full revisions) from inception to post-completion.
  • Prioritize complex tasks and competing priorities
  • Create and/or engage in processes for both assessment of course design and the evaluation of finished courses.
  • Provide support to academic units by participating on a curriculum committee and/or other committees as assigned.
  • Engage in needs analysis for new programs, projects, or initiatives.
  • Other duties assigned by the Director.

Qualifications:

Experience and skills:

  • Application of non-traditional adult higher education theory and practice.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience in teaching and/or curriculum development in an adult learning context.
  • Experience designing content in an LMS.
  • Experience using eLearning software, such as Adobe Captivate or Articulate Storyline.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver quality work on time.
