Position Details

The Department of Psychology in the College of Arts & Sciences is seeking a full-time Research Associate 1 to join Dr. Elizabeth Simpson’s Social Cognition Lab. The Social Cognition Lab (SCL) studies the development of social behavior in infants, including neonatal imitation and face perception. The SCL uses eye tracking to measure infant visual attention and we collect saliva to detect salivary hormones.  The Research Associate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Neuroscience, or a related field. Applicants with previous research experience with children will be preferred.
 

As detailed below, the responsibilities of the Research Associate will include the coordination of research projects and management of data collection and data analysis.  The Research Associate will help manage a team of student researchers, oversee research participant recruitment, and conduct behavioral testing of infants. Successful applicants will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, be highly organized, and work independently as well as with others in a research environment. Knowledge and understanding of research methodology, basic statistics, and concepts of cultural competency required. 
 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Neuroscience, or a related field required
  • English and Spanish fluency preferred to serve research population
     

Core Responsibilities:

  • Contributes to basic and applied research activities by collecting and analyzing data, maintaining databases, etc.
  • Understands and interprets research protocols and procedures
  • Participates in the publication of research results.
  • Ensures all research is undertaken according to good research practice and guidance.
     

Lab Specific Responsibilities:

  • Identify, recruit, and retain eligible research participants
  • Provide supervisory support to a team of undergraduate student researchers
  • Conduct behavioral testing of infants, including eye-tracking, social, and cognitive assessments
  • Oversee purchasing and maintenance of equipment and supplies
  • Assist with monitoring of lab budgets
  • Process, analyze, and interpret data using SPSS or R software
