Full-time appointment to teach at the Federal Correctional Complex-Beaumont and in Stiles and Gist State prisons as needed. Job Summary:

This position reports directly to the Director of External Learning Experiences. The primary duties of this position are classroom teaching and lab instruction to students incarcerated at two federal correctional facilities. Instruction will be provided in the skills needed in building construction and maintenance including carpentry, electrical, and plumbing, identifying and correcting minor problems in building maintenance; identify and using measuring devices; safety procedures for building maintenance, identify proper use of hand and power tools used in building maintenance; and listing materials utilized in building maintenance.

Duties and responsibilities shall include, but not be limited to, the following; provides quality and innovative instruction, mentors students by demonstrating excellent communication skills and interpersonal relations, supplies professional leadership in the development, implementation and evaluation of curriculum, works with various administrative functions of the College, establishes effective working relationships with others, including coworkers and prison personnel, and maintains a safe, orderly, and secure laboratory environment. Performs related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associates of Applied Science degree in Building Repairs and Maintenance Technology or directly related field is required. Exceptional industry experience coupled with formal classroom/lab teaching experience may be considered in lieu of the above educational requirement. Three years of full-time paid in-field work experience at the journeyman level within the past five years. Work experience should include instructional process.

This position requires standing up for up to three hours at a time, walking distances of up to 1/2 mile, carrying objects up to 42 pounds, operating various tools of trade, and performance of normal activities expected of a construction technician in a typical industry setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

Must demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of students from diverse backgrounds. Ability to plan, schedule, and manage projects and assignments. Ability to establish effective working relationships with others. Must comply with established College rules and procedures.

Salary:

$46,000 -12-Month Prison Appointment

Work Hours:

40 hours a week.
