Job Details
Assist in advising current and prospective students on degree and program requirements and campus policies and procedures. Provide information on the transferability of courses and admissions and program requirements to other universities. Provide advice and a knowledgeable source of referrals for campus support programs. Nurture students and help raise their confidence levels as needed for success in reaching their higher education goals.
Establishes close working relationships with high school counselors and representatives of the community; initiates, coordinates, and conducts presentations to high schools and community groups; assists in the development and implementation of a college recruiting plan and recruiting material; provide campus support during registration, special events, and campus tours; coordinates the freshman orientation activities; coordinates the response of the college to requests for information about programs and degrees; and assists with the development of a multi-cultural initiative on campus. Performs other related duties as assigned.
QualificationsBachelor’s degree required; degree in counseling, psychology, education, or related fields preferred. Experience working in higher education preferred. Knowledge of academic advising techniques and of computers, applications, and software programs that support advising programs preferred. Knowledge of the Texas State University System, industry and technology, recruiting, and job placement is preferred. Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills. Bi-lingual preferred. Must be able to work nights and/or weekends. Requires frequent travel. Must comply with established college standards and policies.

Lamar State College Orange currently has a student body of approximately 2,648. Two-year academic programs are offered in business, communication, computer science, criminal justice, education, liberal arts, theater, natural science and sociology. These academic programs lead to associate of science degrees and will transfer to four-year institutions for students seeking baccalaureate degrees. Thirty technical programs are available, leading to associate of applied science degrees, certificates of completion and institutional awards. Some of these degrees include process operating and industrial technology, instrumentation, and medical office. Customized training programs to meet the needs of local business and industry and offered through the Continuing and Workforce Education Department.
