Work Schedule

Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with additional hours on evenings and weekends as required to meet work deadlines and manage events.

The executive director (ED) will be responsible for carrying out the mission and overall goals of Educational and Research Initiatives related to Health at Rice University. The executive director (ED) will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for the special adviser to the Provost’s staff, programs, expansion, and execution of its mission. S/he will initially develop deep knowledge of field, core programs, operations, and business plans. The ED will ensure ongoing local programmatic excellence, rigorous program evaluation, and consistent quality of administration. S/he will lead fundraising, communications and recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve strategic goals.

The ED develops and implements programs in health education and research that will enhance the Health Education and Research Initiatives mission. The ED will identify, assess, and inform the special adviser to the Provost of internal and external issues that affect the organization. The ED reports directly to the special adviser to the Provost on Educational and Research Initiatives in Collaborative Health and represents the Special Adviser as needed.

The ED serves as a key liaison with faculty and internal partners at Rice and the Texas Medical Center (TMC), assisting in nurturing and energizing contacts and relationships to define and achieve defined and new strategic goals. The ED will participate with the special adviser to the Provost on Educational and Research Initiatives in Collaborative Health in developing a vision and strategic plan to guide the Rice – TMC relationships. S/he will deepen and refine all aspects of communications and use external presence and relationships to garner new opportunities.

The ED is responsible for continued and expanded support of programs; and identifying, qualifying and developing potential funding sources and opportunities that may help bring additional funding. The ED will expand local revenue generating and fundraising activities to support existing program operations and regional expansion. The ED provides administrative management and leadership for special projects including planning, implementation, execution and evaluation. The ED reports directly to the Special Adviser to the Provost on Educational and Research Initiatives in Collaborative Health and represents the Special Adviser as needed.

Education Required Master's Degree Major/Discipline

STEM field, business administration, public health or other related area.

Substitution for Education Requirement

Experience may not be substituted for the education requirement.

Education Preferred

Ph.D.

Experience Required 7 years Type of Experience

Related experience in a leadership role that includes program development and management.

Experience Preferred

- Seven years of related senior management experience that includes program development and management experience in an academic setting with a track record of having developed and operationalized strategies that have taken an academic organization to the next stage of growth
- Experience in cultivating Rice-TMC relationships
- Experience in business planning
