Position Summary

With More than 4,300 students (including on-ground locations in Chicago, Washington, D.C., XULA, Dallas, and Southern California—as well as online programming) The Chicago School has a long tradition of being an innovator in the field for 40 years –working to push the boundaries and the impact that psychology and the health sciences have on our world.

The Chicago School is excited about an opportunity for a short-term Library Services Intern who will work closely with the University Librarian in the day to day running of the Dallas Campus library and help prepare the library for a transition to a new library services platform (LSP).  This internship will give LIS students hands on experience running the day to day operations of a library, supervising student employees and meeting the needs of a small branch library. At the end of the internship, the Student will be able to apply skills learned in coursework to practice as well as valuable experience in Library Operations and Services

Essential Functions

·       Manage Daily Circulation Operations of the Dallas Campus Library

·       Work with students on the Dallas Campus to support their library research

·       Work with the University Librarian to Hire, Train and Supervise Graduate Student Assistants

·       Clean up bibliographic records for migration to new LSP

·       Participates in the shared responsibility for providing reference services across campuses, via chat and research consultations

·       Examine and assess the Dallas Campus print collection and prepare a brief collection development plan

·       Learn the basics of interlibrary loan services including copyright considerations.

Meetings and Support (All meetings are via GoToMeeting)

·       Meet with the University Librarian daily

·       Meet at least twice with The Chicago School Librarians to explore how skills learned in the classroom can be put into practice

·       Meet with our systems librarian to explore library implementation strategies for new technologies and platforms.

·       Meet with the Associate Vice President, Academic Program Development Review Online Synergy, Academic Affairs on how Libraries can better market themselves to University Administration.

Required Qualifications

·        Must have completed at least 20 Credit hours leading up to an eventual degree from an ALA Accredited Library and Information Science program.

·        Bachelor’s Degree

Preferred Qualifications

·        Bachelor’s Degree in Health Sciences or related field

·        Course work: Instruction and Metadata/Cataloging
