Job Title User Services Assistant Department Library User Services Position Summary

Gettysburg College seeks a full-time (37.5 hrs/wk) service-oriented User Services Assistant to work in the Library. This position performs a variety of technical, administrative and supervisory duties for the User Services Department. The individual will provide a consistent point of contact for library clientele and student employees from 3 p.m. until 11 p.m., Sunday through Thursday, during the academic year (transitions to day hours during breaks and summer). We serve an increasingly diverse liberal arts community of 2,600 undergraduate students, including 20-25% first-generation college students and over 16% Pell Grant recipients. We seek to recruit and retain a diverse workforce to maintain the excellence of Gettysburg College, and to offer students varied perspectives and ways of learning.

Responsibilities;

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: management of Circulation and Interlibrary loan processes and workflows; supervise, train and evaluate Circulation and Interlibrary loan student employees; communicate with a diverse population of students and other library users; assist in development, implementation and assessment of User Services policies and procedures; assist in the creation, assessment and development of student employee training materials; monitor building occupancy and conditions and communicate as appropriate when building assistance is required; prepare nightly coffee cart; assist library users with computer problems; troubleshoot printer issues; perform a range of functions in Interlibrary loan, course reserves and media reserve services; other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Skills and knowledge required:

•A high school diploma or equivalent is required; college degree is preferred.
•One or more years of work experience in a customer service setting required.
•Experience in a higher education setting or library preferred.
•Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
•Ability to work independently and set priorities; ability to handle multiple tasks while working with interruptions.
•Ability to communicate verbally and in writing, including demonstrated cross-cultural competency in communications with diverse groups of students and colleagues.
•Ability to exercise independent judgment and maintain work relationship with individuals throughout the library, campus and the general public.
•Ability to handle confidential information.
•Ability both to work independently and to work collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
•Strong service orientation and the ability to interact positively with students, faculty, and the public, as well as a commitment to participating in and building an inclusive, equitable and diverse campus community.

Hourly rate: $16.00 to 16.40 per hour, negotiable depending on experience.
