Job Title Director of Donor Relations and Stewardship Department Donor Relations&Special Events Position Summary

Gettysburg College seeks a creative and collaborative professional to oversee its donor relations program. The ideal candidate will be a talented team leader proven at motivating, training, and managing a staff; possess superior communications skills with the ability to construct effective messaging for a variety of audiences; and have the ability to analyze information and think strategically, critically, and creatively. The Director will oversee all components of a comprehensive donor relations and stewardship program, including gift acknowledgements, endowed fund agreements, stewardship reports for endowed and restricted funds, donor recognition projects, giving society stewardship, creative stewardship communications, donor and prospect special events, and other engagement opportunities and outreach efforts. This position will supervise three full-time and one part-time donor relations team members and their wide-range of front line and high-profile responsibilities. This position reports to the Assistant Vice President of Constituent Relations within the division of Development, Alumni and Parent Relations.


A bachelor’s degree is required. This position requires weekend and evening work and travels as necessary to implement off campus events and programs. A minimum of 4 years of experience in a leadership role within a stewardship or donor relations program with higher education experience is highly preferred. Successful candidates will ensure that best practices (well-established and emerging) in donor relations are followed while also fostering a working environment that values creativity, encourages new ideas and risk-taking, and considers new and innovative approaches to engage the broad array of donors who support Gettysburg’s mission. Strong skills in building interpersonal relationships with alumni, donors, colleagues, faculty, and other constituents are necessary. The following demonstrated abilities are desired: experience conducting and facilitating face-to-face meetings with donors as either a stewardship or relationship manager, facility with relational fundraising software and the tools and technologies that support good stewardship, demonstrated ability to multi-task and meet deadlines in a constantly changing environment, experience writing strategic and creative communications, history of working with high-level leadership on shared projects, and demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and diversity.
